Not a silly question. A powerwall is a battery storage for the excess energy that the photovoltaic panels produce. When the sun shines on the panel, most of the solar energy is used to power the household items. At the same time, the excess power is stored in the powerwall. So in other words, when the sun produces a lot of energy, more than what we need for our household use, the excess goes to the battery. In case the power company loses power, then the battery kicks in and we still have power. It's a great thing to have. We've had to use the powerwall several times over the past year. It's nice because most of the folks who do not have a powerwall will be out of power, whereas we still have the power from the powerwall.

Hope this makes sense to you. Let me know if you are confused.
