This year has been one of change, so far. Some positive changes, some not so positive.

I had done so well on my last attempt at losing weight. I had lost 70 lbs between August 2008 and July 2009. Unfortunately, life sometimes gets in the way. I guess I never managed to truly change my habits. I am now roughly 40 lbs up since my lowest point last year - and I will now try to rein in my eating, throw in some exercice and water and see if it can lead me back to fitting into my Elvis clothes by the summer and regaining my sense of self-confidence.

I'm Charles. I'm now 44 (almost 45) years old. I'm a self-employed translator, and a newly separated dad to an amazing 7-year old son, Thomas. I was and am still an Elvis entertainer but after this most recent weight-gain, I feel the need to get back on track.

Because my financial situation has also changed, I have to go it alone this time. I will not be joining Jenny Craig. I am doing this completely on my own. Since I've always had the tendency to eat like a single guy (with everything good and bad that that means), I think I'll be eating more than my share of Lean Cuisines, President's Choice Blue Menu items and stuff like that! I can barely cook (even though I do for my son) - never mind cooking healthy. This, I am sure, will come in time.

For now, my committment will be to limit my intake to 1500 calories a day, eat lots of veggies and fruits (great snacks), drink 8 glasses of water daily and start small but fresh with a 15-minute brisk walk everyday.

I look at the picture on the left - me at 182 less than a year ago, and I know it is all still within reach.

I don't think I will do the blog again. I found the committment too difficult to keep. I will however sign in on SP everyday, put in my food and exercise and water.

I'm a big fan of graphs and charts and filling in stuff - I'll be doing a lot of that.

Now that I am taking control of parts of my life I didn't have to worry about before, this is a great time to renew my SP vows and take control of my health.

I live in Toronto, and I am a recently separated dad of a 6 year old son, Thomas, three crazy dogs and some fishes. Life is fast and crazy!

Other Information:
I have so many interests. In real life, I'm a translator and very much of a word-geek. I'm also a musician and singer (yes, I am an Elvis), I like sketching and watercolors, I'm a bit of a "What's my Line?" (the old TV quiz show) collector and, I like to think, historian. I'm a huge fan of cheesy music from the 70s I'm also much into retro and vintage stuff - once the weight is off, I swear to buy clothing solely from vintage stores! I adore retro tattoos and have a few myself - namely that lovely pin-up you see on the background of this page. She's on my arm :) Her name is Veronica, I have blonde Betty on the other arm.
