I am a work in progress ... I got up "UP" band for Christmas and my mom said she would buy me 4 months at the Rec Center near our new home, so that should help.

I am going to talk to a doctor about a gastric bypass on the 14th of January. I am not sure I will do this but just wanted to discuss it as an option. I feel I have tried every other diet under the sun and my weight has only increased over the years, so I either need to see some results in the next 3 months being really strict or possibly do this ... because I am walking on an ankle with no cartilage and it's very painful.

About me: I grew up being in great shape, on a swim team from the age of 5 through college and also used to run track. However, in the last ten years, I have put on a great deal of weight due to breaking my ankle in several places in 2004. I had reconstructive ankle surgery in 2005, but doctors say my running days are over, which makes me sad.

I am determined to get my body back in as great a shape as I can within a year despite all this. I can swim, and I can bike, so will plan to swim 3-4 times a week, and bike most days at home on the stationary bike. Also want to check out the spinning classes at the Rec Center, and get into a schedule for lifting weights.

Hopefully, in a year, you will see a new me!

    emoticon Happy New Year. emoticon
So glad to hear from you. If I didn't stay here, I'd weigh 314# by now. 2015 is the year I'm getting the rest of my fat off. My brother had a mild heart attack (he's 62) so I know I got to do this.
Do have the gastric bypass. I use to not be for it since it is so much easier than doing diet and exercise, but when we are past 50, hormones are against us and it really helps to have that stomach cut down as it just doesn't shrink back to a small size on its own. A woman I follow on YouTube lost 96# this year from a Gastric Sleeve surgery. (She's 28). But remember you CAN regain all the weight again if you stretch out your stomach, as HALF of all people do it and regain all the weight.
I understand about how hard it is to find work when u r over 55. If u have a needed job skill like a nurse or a skilled medical records secretary that makes a difference.
My DD is 24 and has two little girls 2 1/2 and 9 months so I'll be taking care of them full time now as she has to work in order to have health care. Her husband is a Professional House Painter so he works on his own, thus she needs the job to get on the insurance, but it has to be full time.

emoticon Hope you are back to work now and working on your self. I just got my gallbladder out after having a severe attack in July. Doctor said I had 2 Golf Ball size stones so I know they would never have passed on their own! MAYBE now, I can finally get this fat off and not worry about an attack! This has gone on for six years so I'm glad it is over. emoticon
