I've been a success story before, losing 35+ pounds and reaching 130 pounds and a size 6 between late 2009 and early 2010. I had achieved some of my running goals, I'd just married my wonderful husband, things were good. And then my health went and I just lost it.

2011 started off with foot and ankle problems that (temporarily) sidelined my running goals. From there, it's been a downhill slide into a world of chronic pain. Shortly after starting some rehab to treat my feet and ankles, I was blindsided with debilitating neck, shoulder, and back pain. I spent most of the year in rehab, on a huge cocktail of pain meds, and finally had a cervical fusion towards the end of the year. 2012 was supposed to be my year to come back. Unfortunately, I had a great deal of trouble with shaking the chronic pain and muscle weakness that had set in to the upper half of my back, shoulders, and neck, and upper arms. I finally took a break from rehab in August, but by the end of October, the pain was getting to be too much to handle again and my surgeon ordered me back into rehab, with my physiatrist ordering another pain med cocktail. Towards the end of the year, I was struggling with chronic fatigue, my blood pressure was up, I was having an increase in joint pain - ankles, knees, hips, low back, mid-back, shoulder blades, and neck.

Starting off 2013, we've identified that I had a dangerously low level of Vitamin D and we're hoping that mega-supplementation resolves some of the pain and the bone-deep exhaustion. I'm optimistic. I've set new goals, my husband and I both are eating healthy this time around, and as soon as I regain some of my energy, I hope to retrain with C25k.

Thanks for your encouragement on my one-year Sparkversary blog, and thanks for sharing your story. A big fear for me is an experience like yours, where pain, disability, or meds throw me off track. Hope you are doing better with the vitamin D.

Tammy, thanks so much for taking some time to come to read and comment on my blog, Loving Yourself: Facing Your Fears. I'm glad you found it helpful and informative, and worthwhile.

We need to remember to continue to be aware of how we are feeling in the moment. Once we feel our fear we need to remember not to let it immobilize us and to chase our fear and confront it. It is only by looking at it, and then remembering to embrace it that we can begin to erase it.

Hope you are having some luck with your health. Think about you more often than I let you know.

Hi Tammy, I just saw your response, I sure am behind in sparking! Meghan was at the docs twice this week, yesterday to go over the lab results done earlier in the week. Turns out her Vitamin D level was only 8 and her Sed rate was markedly elevated. She now has the 50.000 iu weekly dose of VItamin D. Procardia 60 mg daily was added for the Raynauds that has markedly gotten worse and for the fibro they added Cymbalta 60 mg. Sooo, now she's on: Savella 150 mg, Cymbalta 60 mg, Naprosyn 500, Flexeril 10 mg and Vicodan or Percocet prn for pain not controlled by the others for the fibro, Vyvanse and Intuniv for the ADD, Topral XL for tachycardia, Wellbutrin and Celexa for the depression and anxiety, Flonase and a prescription rx for the sinuses that I forgot the name of. She's also on the max dose of Intermezzo for sleep. Never mind the antibiotic she's still on post her sinus surgery and the drops and ointment for the blepharospasms she developed after her surgery! She's a walking medicine cabinet :-( We have noticed a difference in her sx...an improvement, but she's still miserable much of the time. Such a sad way to feel at only age 17 and she's been dealing with most of it for several years already. Melatonin never did a thing for her either.

I sure am glad you're getting everything checked out and worked on. I really hope that they can find the right combo of things to help you.

Sorry you weren't able to make the meet up, but I had plan for dinner after with a friend and left after only an hour. Maybe we can get together someone else and just have time to chat....or I could even come see you at your house :-)
