After countless attempts over the years hopefully this will be the time I finally succeed in learning to manage my body & weight for better health & fitness. Years of dieting can give a person a lot of knowledge about what to eat, what not to eat, when to eat, etc. But all that knowledge is no help at all until you learn to deal with the challenges of eating for better health instead of eating to satisfy an emotional need.

Like many other people, it seems I've been fighting this battle all my life to one degree or another. At one point I was 2 pounds away from my goal weight while going to Weight Watchers. I never did lose that last 2 pounds. Then came two pregnancies. My weight hasn't quit climbing since.

I'd try to lose weight, even lose a couple of pounds or so, but then it all came right back. Now I've got the positive mindset that's necessary to make real weight loss a possibility. I'm on the road to a new and improved healthier, slimmer me!

In a spirit of positive affirmation for my profile image, I'm using an avatar of what I might look like when I finally reach my goal weight.

Fitness Minutes: 75

My Goals:
To gradually reach a heart-healthy weight while learning to make good, healthy food choices & making exercise a daily habit.

My Program:
Following the DASH Diet, which is approved by the American Heart Association and the NHLBI to help decrease High Blood Pressure & help control High Cholesterol. The diet can be adjusted to decrease calorie intake for healthy weight loss.

"The point is that nutrition knowledge isn't enough. You have to confront your eating behaviors and gain skills to deal with the challenges of eating more healthfully." from The DASH Diet for Hypertension by Thomas Moore, M.D.

Personal Information:
I was surrounded by good food as I grew up. Coming from a fairly large church-oriented family means lots of family reunions & church carry-ins.

I enjoy music & like to crochet. I wish I liked to exercise just a fraction as well as I like to crochet. Perhaps someday I'll acquire that healthy life-sustaining habit. I HOPE SO!
