Five years ago this past March my husband & I were hit head-on by a drunk driver. The accident left us both in wheelchairs for 3 months... basically we left home on March 18th and weren't able to return home until July 1st. The upside to the whole experience is that we are still here and are walking again, we were able to be together for our entire recuperation/rehabilitation period and know that we have truly found the right person to spend the rest of our lives with! The downside has been gaining close to 50 lbs as a result of being completely to moderately inactive for close to a year (an undiagnosed, under-active thyroid didn't help!), somewhat limited mobility, chronic pain and an inability to return to work. Throughout the whole process of getting better and dealing with the legal side of things I somehow lost myself. I stopped caring about how I looked, focused only on what wasn't going right in my life and doing very few of the things I used to enjoy doing.

Last June I saw a picture of myself at our nephew's graduation & just wanted to cry. I decided then and there that I had to do something and have managed to lose 30 pounds but still have about 60 to go. I am beginning to do more and have actually started to believe that there is life after the accident.

My Goals:
My goal is to lose the excess weight that I have gained as the result of my accident combined with an under active thyroid and get down to a healthy weight that I can maintain.

My Program:
I am tracking what I eat and exercising every day. My program is a work in progress because some of the things I have tried in the past haven't worked.

Personal Information:
I was born and raised in Ontario, Canada but moved around a lot. Places I have lived: Hamilton (x 2), Welland, Burlington, Oshawa (x 2), Whitby, Toronto (for most of my life), St. Catharines and now, Lakehurst (small community north of Peterborough). I also lived in Japan for 3 years - 1 year in Tokyo and 2 in Sapporo

Other Information:
I love to cook, very little processed food comes through my door and it's even more fun when our garden is at it's peak - love veggie gardening. I am a photographer, mainly nature/landscape but I shoot people, pets & fast boats, too.

This is the second post I read this morning from a Sparker who's been in a car accident........yikes! emoticon

Yeah, the thyroid can be a real issue wrt weight control - I was diagnosed with hypo "back in the day", and had to discontinue treatment due to lack of coverage :( - now that I have some coverage I may get that checked again.........although frankly I've been in overall good health during that time so I suspect my case might have been milder than originally thought.......

    Welcome and best wishes!
