I am 6 and a half years retired in my seventies and want to continue enjoying an active engaged life. I have had a high energy level and have been able to use a fitbit and sparkpeople to lose 35+ pounds 235 to low of 186 . I have gained to 215 and am committed to going in the right direction.. I realize that I am not 20 years old and want to extend my healthspan (not just lifespan) as much as possible.

I have found tracking food intake and daily monitoring of results the best way to sustain motivation. I also track steps and this has saved my health as I get distracted from a nutrition and caloric focus. Strength training is a goal too, but not the strong focus that walking and biking has for me. With the coronavirus arrival and the need to maintain social distance and yet connection I want to start a daily exercise group that uses bike to help with the six foot spacing recommended for social distancing.

I want to stay in contact with a variety of friends and family, so I am begining a social biking group.

I am personnally recommitting to daily monitoring with immediate adjustments as a life long strategy, rather than the diet mentality, or yo yo on and off mostly off, approach which I know will not work.

Looking to stay focused through the upcoming holiday season? Want to get connected with a team to support you on your journey to a healthier lifestyle? If yes, consider joining the BL “Snow More Excuses” winter challenge starting December 5th, 2018. Each week 11 teams of 24 active members do fun nutritional and fitness challenges to promote a healthy lifestyle. Challenges can be modified to meet your needs. Often we do the challenges in a game form. We have BINGO and TIC TAC TOE. For the fall we had a Cardio Hoedown, World Series, and Sleepathon. I hope that you decide this might be for you. To signup for the winter challenge, copy and paste the link below. Join the team and sign up on the waitlist.

Hey Joe, Thanks for the goodie! And for the great rationalization for political action. I took a break from Spark since January to work on elections. It is lovely being retired and able to focus on such work. Fitness remains my first priority though. Can't be much use to the world or my corner of it if I am not healthy and energetic. Great to meet you here. Our stories have a lot of similarities.
