Introduction Text This is a journey for me from an unhealthy to a healthy lifestyle. I have been with SP since June 2006. Initially, my goal was to get back into weight loss mode. I was drinking water and exercising but I was still gaining weight because I just could not/would not eat right. My biggest problem was eating out and eating sweets of any kind- that adds pounds fast. In March of 2008 I achieved my first major goal. For the first time in 9 years I reached and maintained a weight under 200 pounds. This achievement meant a lot to me and it helps me to believe that I can reach my goal weight one of these days. Unfortunately, 2008 did not end as well as it began. All in all, I gained 5 pounds and ended the year at 215 pounds. It was hard for me to see the scale climb back up over 200 but that didn't seem to stop me from eating poorly. 2009 and 2010 were yo-yoing years. I never made it back under 200 pounds but I got pretty close. I think 205 was the closest. I would gain 20 and lose it and then gain it etc. Here we are in 2011 and I got to 242 pounds before I reached my breaking point. Thanks to a sparkfriend I found the site fatloser.com. This site has a free 21 day mental toughness course presented by Steve Seibold, a mental toughness coach. His assertion is that losing weight is simple but not easy. It is simple becasue all you have to do is pick a diet plan and an exercise regimen (preferably with the help of your doctor) and then stick to it. The sticking to it part is the hard part and where mental toughness comes in. I started the fat loser program on April 4, 2011. Through this program I have learned that I can choose to either die fat or get fit. I can choose either but I can't have both. I have chosen to get fit and I am doing what it takes to succeed. I have outlined my diet which is basically staying within Spark calorie ranges. No foods are restricted but I am focusing on eating healthy foods as much as possible. The key is staying within my range. My exercise routine is: cardio 3x a week at least 30 minutes a session and strength training (ST) at least 2x a week. My first goal is 100% compliance with my diet and exercise plan for 90 days. I am on day 58 (5/31/11) and so far, so good. Current goal: 199 by 8/1/11 I am taking things one step at a time so before setting another goal I want to reach this one. In general, after reaching 199, my next big goal is 150. I want to be under 150 for the rest of my life. When I get there I will reevaluate. I am currently thinking I'd like to get to 130 but that might change.

To me, controlling what I eat is the most important thing. This has been where I have failed whenever I have tried before. I am putting 100% of my effort into controlling what I eat. That means staying in my spark calorie range everyday. I am keeping my exercise at a more basic level until food is completely under control. Exercise: Cardio workouts 3 times a week for a minimum of 30 minutes. Two Strength Training (ST) sessions a week. I am currently doing one day lower body and one day upper body. I do 2 core exercises each session.
