Why did I join Sparkpeople / when did I join?

*** I started my weight gain journey when I was in my early 20's and rather taking notice of the gain and the advise from Doctors as to where I was heading with the weight I continued on the wrong path of unhealthy eating.

*** I can't remember the actual time but I know I was partipating back as far as 2007 and think even before that.

*** In 2011 because I was not seeing any progress I thought I should leave Sparkpeople and rely on my own strength. This was not a good thing. I came to understand that I need to be a member of Sparkpeople as it helps me a lot with accountability and all the great resources here - so on November 5 2011 I rejoined

What would I like to share about myself and my journey?

** I was married a little later in life - December 1983 at the age of 35 - 2 months later I turned 36. The day of my wedding I not only became a wife but a stepmother to 2 beautiful girls ages 11 and 13. The came to our wedding, the youngest playing the clarinette to Here comes the bride - then after Christmas that year we drove them 10 hours back to their home with their mom. We saw them often while they continued to grow into beautiful women and getting married to 2 great men.

** For the 1st 5 years of our marriage I ran a small daycare and we also foster children under the age of 5. What a wonderful experience it was and we have many wonderful pictures of those beautiful children. When we celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary we were asked by our social worker about adopting as she thought we would make good parents. At this time I was just turning 40 and my sweet husband 44. We applied and 2 days short of 9 months we brought home two beautiful children - our son was 3 1/2 and our daughter 2 1/2. Both were considered special needs - our son is challenged due to Fetal Alcohol Effects (thankfully not the complete Syndrome) pus Attachment / Bonding problems and his young sister is Down Syndrome. My life has not been the same - our son is all grown up and living on his own holding down a great job as an assistant manager in the kitchen of a large chain. We are very proud of him. He never married but does have a beautiful daughter which we love more than you can imagine (I am in contact with the mother and consider her a daughter in law and we talk and see each other frequently) Now our youngest daughter due to having Down Syndrome still lives with us - and I cannot imagine it any other way. At the time of this writing (June 2018) she is 29 and both of us are now in our 70's = so our life is still not like a regular retired couple as we still have a 'child' how needs supervision living at home - and I consider it a blessing to have her home with us.

** We also have 6 grandchildren ranging as of June 2018 from ages 11 to 24. We also have our 1st great grandchild - a beautiful little girl born May 2017. Hopefully we will see weddings soon.

** We have 2 dogs - Pom/maltese cross = they are both aging out the oldest (male) now being 12 and the younger one - his sister - is now 9. They rule the roost

** Both DH and I are followers of Jesus Christ - as some would say we are 'born again'. We are active in our Chuch and our love for the Lord is above all else. We are not perfect by any means but we work at being obedient to God's Word every day.

** I am a cancer survivor - 2 x and have now been 'clear' for 16 years
