I'm getting ready for the 2020 Fall 5% Challenge. During the In-Between Challenge, I'm trying to increase my intensity and not worry about the minutes of exercise. That means giving myself more recovery time between workouts.

I was expecting to be back in the gym or fitness center by now, but with Covid19 rates still high, that is NOT going to happen. So...

I'm up-dating my exercise program in the fields below.

Fitness Minutes: 58,289

My Goals:
I want to stay healthy, mobile, and lean for the rest of my life.
I'd like to follow "The Younger Next Year" advice including 60 minutes of exercise 6 days a week for the rest of my life.
Return to the healthy weight I maintained in my 40s, now that I've hit my 60s.
Continue to run/walk, and exercise with intensity.

My Program:
September 4, 2020 Update:
Exercise has to be my priority.
1. Jog outdoors 2 to 3 times a week, increasing distance from 2 miles incrementally to 3 miles.
2. Walk outdoors on windy or inclement weather days.
3. Jump rope by intervals for 10 to 15 minutes 2 times a week, alternating with squats, and large muscle training.
4. Use Essentrics videos daily for mobility and flexibility.
5. Monitor my fitness levels using heart rate.

Nutrition Goals:
1. Make a conscious effort to increase water intake. Eight glasses is hard for me.
2. Reduce alcohol consumption.
3. Monitor trigger foods closely, follow Low fodmap guidelines.
4. Eat a Mediterranean diet as much as possible.

Accountability Goals:
1. Weigh-in weekly, Saturdays for 2020 Fall 5% Challenge Community.
2. Post exercise, LTGL goals every day.

Personal Information:
My DH and I are retired. Both of us were reared on family farms, so we love open space and quiet whenever possible. We are able to travel between those two farms, as well as to winter in the Southwest for health reasons.

Other Information:
I love baking, cooking, and eating. So aside from a sweet tooth, I cook from scratch and have a relatively healthful diet. I enjoy sewing, knitting, reading, and gardening when on the farm. As a person on faith, I believe it's important to care for ourselves, others, and our planet.

    The expression “dark inertia”, comes from The Fourteenth Teaching: The Triad of Nature’s Qualities in the Bhagavad Gita. The other two are lucidity and passion. My dear friend Betty was one of the most intellectually gifted people I’ve met. She was truly a master teacher of literature, the humanities, and comparative religion. The Bhagavad Gita was required reading in her course on Eastern Humanities. She was much older than I, and I traveled with her as her companion several times. I fetched and carried, drove, managed the directions, etc. Our final trip was up the coast of Maine to the Bay of Fundy. We stayed overnight in the little town her mother’s family had lived in and went to the docks in St John, New Brunswick where her father had arrived from England. My husband even managed to find the name of the ship that brought him to Canada. It meant so much to her to see those places herself. Six months later, she was diagnosed with a cancer of the blood and passed in a short time. On her last day, our priest, another friend, and I sat with her in her Hospice room while she held forth about world views, a teacher to the end.
