I have been on the diet roller coaster all my life. The largest I got was 315 pounds about 22 years ago. I was diagnosed with diabetes then and using the Diabetic Exchange diet, I managed to lose down to 225. Then, due to all the things life has thrown at me over the years, I lost my way and regained back up to 280. Starting in August of 2008 at 245, I managed to drop back down to 225 or maybe a little less depending on whose scale I am on. Why do doctors' scales always weigh 4 to 8 pounds ...
Why do doctors' scales always weigh 4 to 8 pounds more than mine??? Anyway, I have changed my mindset now to finding out more about nutrition and how foods work with the body and go about this with a totally different attitude. I am now 56 years old and for the first time, I am finally starting to "get it". I have been reading a lot and researching everything I can find to understand why I gain weight. I have been eating much healthier foods, but using the calorie formula on this site, I realize that I have been eating either not enough or too many calories all of my life. I am glad to finally find out what calorie range I should stay within. I have hope that I can finally get back down to the weight recommended for me.
I have been a seamstress for 28 years. Even though I stay busy and work all the time, this type of work doesn't get me much of a workout. Before that I worked as a bookkeeper. That work didn't get me any exercise either. So I guess I'd better get up and move!!! I am setting a goal of 180 to begin with. Don't want to overwhelm myself too soon!.
I don't fill out all of the charts on the web like I should because I don't have the time it takes to log in everyday, but I will be keeping up with my calories, etc. during the day with my notebook and will be online when possible to read and learn everything I can to help me in this.
UPDATE:
As of December of 2010, I have lost down to 188 and still am working to lose another 30 to 40 pounds. I'll decide how much more when I get closer to my goal. There have been a few bumps in my road over the past year and a half, but I am back on track and getting back to work on this mission. I don't expect to lose the weight quickly...slow and steady. As long as I am losing and not gaining, I am satisfied even if it is only a pound a month. I have finally been taken off of all of my diabetes meds and have lowered some other medicine dosages. I hope to eventually get off of all of them. That is even more exciting to me than the fact that I have dropped about 5 sizes in my clothes!
Update:
Well, here it is October 5, 2013, and I am still fighting this weight
problem. I have had a lot of life and health issues to deal with and am at least able to say I haven't gained back but 5 pounds. I think I am drowning in "diet info overload". I have read so many opinions from so-called health/diet experts and it seems like they are all just out to sell something and disagree with each other unless they are trying to sell the same products. I can say that I have been able to get my cholesterol down and have stopped taking the medicine for that. So far, I have been able to drop all of the medicines for diabetes and cholesterol and have dropped the blood pressure pill from 40mg down to 5mg. The only other prescription I take now is blood thinner. I do intend to keep working on the rest of the weight loss, but if I never lose it all, I am very proud of what I have been able to accomplish so far. The fact that I have been able to weather all of the problems in my life and not gained back all of the weight plus some, like I have done so many times before, proves to me that I have changed my relationship with food and that I can finally get this weight off eventually, no matter how long I have to work on it.

My Goals:
I want to first get into Onderland...then try and make it to 175. Then I'll see how much more I want to lose. According to the charts, I would have to be under 175 for a normal BMI.
My Program:
I am using the diabetic exchange program lists and incorporating it in with the "Wheat Belly" diet to mainly control blood sugar while keeping within my recommended calorie range. Also trying to increase my exercise and overall activity everyday and drinking water, water and more water!!!
Personal Information:
I live in Northwestern Tennessee. My name is Beverly. I was married for 32 years, now a widow. Have no children, just 2 dogs.
Other Information:
I work from home doing contracted sewing for a couple of different retail stores here in town and also for clubs, leagues or anyone who hears of me by word of mouth. I don't advertise, but I stay busy enough to suit me and then some.
