Hello! My name is Renee and I am currently on a significant weight loss journey over the past four years of shedding about half my starting body weight. I am over 100 pounds down and am integrating the principles of Intuitive Eating - NO MORE DIETING - as I slowly move back toward my natural healthy weight, wherever that ends up being.

I have no exact pound limitation in mind anymore. My natural body size is curvy, but still smaller than where I am today. I am a trauma survivor and have hidden behind fat for many many years. I haven't even been at my current weight since 1994. I am finally ready to fully break down that fat barrier and I'm in the process of returning to my natural size. Intuitive Eating is helping me to do that. Some people gain or maintain weight on IE, others lose. Because of my past trauma, healing for me for right now looks like weight loss so I am no longer hiding under excess. I am finding where I have wanted to be for many years.

Although I am embracing all of Intuitive Eating, my particular challenges are Making Peace With Food and Feeling Your Fullness. I am in the re-feeding stage, where I have unconditional permission to eat, including all my formerly forbidden foods. I am learning that I really CAN have something again anytime, so it's not urgent to eat a lot right now...and I have been dieting for so long that I have almost completely lost touch with how it feels to be full. I am a work in progress.

For the most part, I eat lots of whole grains, winter squash, beans/tofu, greens, veggies, fruits, with some nuts and seeds. I eat these foods freely - I neither count calories nor measure portions.

I don't consider any food to be "forbidden." If I want a piece of cake, I will go to a restaurant and have one with no guilt, then move on. If I want cheese, I eat it. Recently I wanted a treat, so I bought a high quality loaf of banana bread by a local baker, and had two pieces! And guess what? The world didn't end and I didn't die! I am DONE dieting.

Thanks to Intuitive Eating, I no longer track and plan every morsel I put in my mouth...and surprise - I am still losing excess weight and I naturally regularly choose healthy, deeply satisfying foods.

Number of apneas on CPAP from 5-6 per hour to 0.9

Make food choices that honor your health and taste buds while making you feel well. Remember that you don't have to eat perfectly to be healthy. You will not suddenly get a nutrient deficiency or gain weight from one snack, one meal, or one day of eating. It's what you eat consistently over time that matters - progress not perfection is what counts.

My Goals:
Last I weighed, I am down 110 pounds, and I'm guessing I have about another 40-50 pounds to go before my body stops losing, but I don't have any specific expectations. I just know I am in a long process of shedding excess, and I am not done yet. My body will tell me when it gets to the right place. Since I am still at a higher weight, my eating is still resulting in weight loss, but there will naturally come a time when weight loss stops in my natural healthy weight range. I will still be eating the same way as I do today, so I don't worry about "being done," there is no "end date," I am just making healthy eating decisions and watching my body shape change over time.

Intuitive Eating teaches us to stop weighing, but I am not totally there yet. I have given myself permission to weigh at the beginning of the month, at least until I get to my natural weight range where weight loss will stop, and then I will probably get into a comfort zone and give up the scale.
