Hello. My name is Lisa and I am 36 yrs old, I have 3 wonderful boys, and very happily married, yet inside I feel empty. This emptiness comes from years of battling with my weight. I started having weight problems after my first son was born and with every year that passed I only gained more. I found that i have a thyroid condition which lowers my metabolism. I have twice lost over 100 lbs. and twice I have gained the weight back. I know I have it in me to lose the weight. I struggle with keeping the weight off. I lose the weight and then think I can go back to eating like everyone else does. I now know that I am one of those individuals that can not eat like everyone else. I will have to count my calories and fat intake for the rest of my life. I am ok with this as long as I can maintain a healthy weight. I joined sparks this month and I have lost 19 lbs. I have a long way to go, but I plan to reach my goal. My biggest fear is not reaching this goal and becoming even more over weight than I already am. My older brother passed away 6 yrs ago. He suffered from leukemia, however the leukemia is not what killed him. not directly. He sat up a blood clot some where in his abdomen. Because of his weight of 800 lbs the doctors could not determine where exactly the blood clot was. so they could not save his life. His weight kept him from living. he passed away at the age of 38 . He is my motivator, my strength and through his death I have realized it is time I do something about my weight before It gets so out of hand that I can't gain control. I am through with the up and downs. I am ready to get healthy. So here I go.

Personal Information:
I am 36, married, and have 3 wonderful sons. I like to get on myspace, and chat with online friends. however that is about all the friends I have. I am shy, due to my weight. I dont get out much and I want to change this. I live in Georgia. love music, like taking walks

emoticon Just read your comments about metabolism. I, too, have taken thyroid medication for many, many years and I have never been thin. Always fought the weight battle. And like you, I would drop to 650 - 700 calories to try to lose weight. Then became discouraged because I didn't lose. Spark People has been great for me because once they told me to eat no less than 1200 calories, I started to lose the weight. Don't drop your calories, increase them. Shake them up, and once again you will start losing. TRACK every bite of food and get a good balance of calories, carbs and fats and see what happens. We are all here to help in whatever way we can. Keep at it!!!
