Swimming with Marlene
Monday, May 31, 2010
I went swimming today with my friend Marlene. She showed me a new little-used public access to a local little lake. To get to it there is a lovely little walk in the woods to a small little beach opening up to a lovely little sand-bottom swimming spot on an undeveloped northern Wisconsin lake.
I haven't been swimming in a couple years because of lack of bathing suit. Two years ago I found a brand new green Lands End bathing suit for only $12 - can you say 85% off? It was a size 16 and for some reason I bought it thinking I would loose a size or two to get into it (seriously, I hardly ever do that). It got put away for two years until about a month ago when, suddenly, it actually does fit! (you can see it when it almost fit in my sort of "before picture" - it took loosing 25 pounds "before" it fit)
Today, I didn't do much besides tread water for about 20 minutes while talking to Marlene and watching her swim a bit. I'll get there but for now, I can really feel the treading water in my arms & legs. I am not the greatest swimmer but I know that I get better every time I get in the water.
The greatest part of this lonely little spot is it is barely out of my way driving from the yarn shop to home. My plan is to have my suit in the car and try to squeeze in a dip at least once or twice a week.
(I also work for UW-Wisconsin Lakes, and today I really got into my job! - in fact I spent about 20 minutes up to my chin in a Wisconsin Lake!)
