How to Not Get Fat While Mystery Shopping

Friday, June 11, 2010

I do a lot of mystery shopping to make a supplemental income to my writing income. Many of the mystery shopping jobs are for restaurants. Especially fast food restaurants. At first I was a little worried about gaining weight, but after awhile I learned some tips and tricks about how to not gain weight even when I'm required to eat fast food twice a day!

Tip #1: Mystery shopping in a job. Not a free meal. Take one or two bites of each dish you're required to sample. Do NOT eat the whole meal.

Tip #2: Plan your meal ahead. There are usually specific rules on what you can order. Peruse the list in advance and pick the healthiest your can.

Tip #3: Figure out what your calories, fat, etc. will be (for me, I figure out what my Weight Watchers points). Plan the trip into your day so you don't go over on calories.

Tip #4: Eat a healthy snack before you go out for your meal. The worst thing to do is go do a mystery shopping job while you're hungry. You have to order unhealthy food. Don't up the temptation by having to sit in front of it for ten-fifteen minutes while starving! It's easy to not order a cheeseburger. I'm harder to not eat when it's sitting in front of you and you're hungry!

And an unexpected side effect of all this mystery shopping- I cannot imagine voluntarily going into a fast food restaurant anymore. If I'm going to indulge, I'm going to go grab sushi or pulled pork, not a fast food cheeseburger!

p.s. For those of you who are interested in mystery shopping,
I offer reviews of companies, tricks and tips to learn, etc. on one of my websites.

(No, I am NOT advertising my site, I just wanted to answer the inevitable questions in advance...every time someone finds out I'm a mystery shopper, the first question is always, "Wow, can I do that?").
