Fruit flies? Is it the season?

They are more than just a fruit fly, they are the most irritating things right now.
This weekend has been extremely frustrating as these little flies are persistent. Drawn to the warmth or light of the computer screen or maybe it is the carbon monoxide of my breath. Either way, here they are bouncing around in front of me. Daring creatures even have the nerve to bravely land upon my nose. Ouch, got one.
Quick little things they are; as I sit here in a welcoming pose, arms spread so slightly, hands open, palms up, and ready to clap them into oblivian. Missed. They sometimes land on the papers in front of me and quickly hop around too fast for me to smash. Oops there goes my cup of tea.
I don't know where they come from. All my house plants are dead, have been for months - not a green thumb on either hand. I've even poured boiling water down all the drains, followed by some bleach. All my food, even the fruit, is stored tightly in the fridge.
Perhaps this is why they are so starved for my attention?
Or maybe they aren't fruit flies at all?
Trick or treat......and Happy Halloween!
