Fruit flies? Is it the season?

Sunday, October 31, 2010

They are more than just a fruit fly, they are the most irritating things right now.

This weekend has been extremely frustrating as these little flies are persistent. Drawn to the warmth or light of the computer screen or maybe it is the carbon monoxide of my breath. Either way, here they are bouncing around in front of me. Daring creatures even have the nerve to bravely land upon my nose. Ouch, got one.

Quick little things they are; as I sit here in a welcoming pose, arms spread so slightly, hands open, palms up, and ready to clap them into oblivian. Missed. They sometimes land on the papers in front of me and quickly hop around too fast for me to smash. Oops there goes my cup of tea.

I don't know where they come from. All my house plants are dead, have been for months - not a green thumb on either hand. I've even poured boiling water down all the drains, followed by some bleach. All my food, even the fruit, is stored tightly in the fridge.

Perhaps this is why they are so starved for my attention?

Or maybe they aren't fruit flies at all?

Trick or treat......and Happy Halloween!

I hate bugs! That sounds like the no see ums we have here in Florida. Oh, they are worse than mosquitos! So tiny you cannot kill them. They get thru the screens. You have to spray your screens with bug killer and it kills them there. But, it doesn't last once it rains. I hate bugs!!!!! The mosquito is the state bird here in Florida too. LOL. emoticon

I just recently had the same problem. To get rid of them, pour some wine in a tall glass (only need about an inch), use a cone shaped coffee filter or roll a piece of paper into a cone, tape it to the glass so there are no holes. The fruit flies will go for the wine and get trapped inside--Just make sure that the hole at the bottom is not too big where they can get back out. I hope this helps and I'd like to join your team.

Do you have bananas, not in the fridge? I heard somewhere that the eggs may already be laid in the banana skins...or they could be baby vampire bats of course. Better wear a turtleneck to bed just in case.

We had 1 car of trick or treaters last night (3 kids, 2 dressed in their hockey outfits and one was a little monster) so I'm sure glad I remembered to get some treats.

We've got them, too. I don't know where they come from. Maybe they are attracted to the horses, I don't know. We also have those "lady-bug look-alikes." They bite and stink when you squish them! emoticon

LOL... they're here, too! I think they're here because of the tomatoes. It's a mystery how they get in the house! They also drive ME nuts! I have a fly swatter beside me while I'm laid up because I hate bugs! emoticon (ok, I wouldn't smash a lady bug, but is the only bug I found!)
