Hi Everyone!
I am so thankful for all of you! I appreciate the prayers and thoughts coming our way for our family and especially my husband, Randy. Due to a lack of time I am writing a general letter to all my teams, so please forgive!
I brought him home yesterday and have been very busy taking care of him and the kids and the house, etc! On December 11th, he was rushed to the hospital via ambulance in excrutiating pain. We were having a Christmas party at our house with family. Thankfully we had the extra help right then, right there to keep our younger kids from seeing their Daddy going through this! He was suffering from Acute Pancreatitis.
The nurses tell us we “dodged a bullet.” The Drs. are amazed that Randy is okay without further organ damage. We have been told many times that many don’t survive this attack and with the numbers that my husband had for his pancreas it is a miracle he is alive. With a lipase level (digestive enzyme made by the pancreas) of 41,000 the Dr. said they would see the pancreas “digesting itself,” kidney failure, etc. The normal level is 100-300! It’s a little hard to come to grips with the fact that I almost lost him!
We still don’t know what caused the acute pancreatitis and further testing will be done to try to figure that out. Randy can’t afford to have another attack.
Right now is at a 50 percent lung capacity and using a spirometer to build up again. They say his lung was 40% collapsed.
Due to the lower body cavity including intestines, colon etc. being “bathed” in enzymes and insulin, the lower digestive track “froze” and they were concerned about a blockage…that has very slowly resolved itself as well.
He will be on a very restrictive low to no fat diet for a while until the pancreas heals and may be on this diet indefinitely. Not at all a problem as this is pretty much what I have done for myself with eating. It is good for us!!
I am so exhausted from serving everyone all the time. But I am honored to do it and still in that auto-mode. I am looking forward to some down time sometime.
I am so very thankful for Sparkpeople and all the healthy lessons I have learned! I could never have had the energy to get through this in my old unhealthy state...mentally or physically! And having learned so much about healthy eating I can carry that forward for my husband and help him to be healthy once again!
I am so very grateful for all my SP friends that are always there praying and encouraging and supporting me and my family!! You rock!!
I am so thankful that we are celebrating the miracles that have been gifted to us this Christmas.
Thank you so much everyone!!
Hugs to all! Cathy
