Practice a Tri Today
Monday, February 07, 2011
My husband read in his Triathlon Bible that during training we should do a practice triathlon every 6 weeks or so. Well today is the 6th week of the year and our training plan. We decided that we would do a practice sprint today. We started in the pool. I swam the 1/2 mile in 18 minutes. Then I had to go to the locker room to change into my bike clothes. I underestimated how long it would take me to dry off. I was a full 10 minutes in the locker room and I was still a little wet when I ran to the spin bike. I was pumping the peddles as hard as I could. Even though I was 2 laps ahead of my husband at the end of the swim, he was already a mile into the bike by the time I got there. 26 minutes later I was done with the bike! Then for my least favorite part. The run! Or in my case, the run/walk. I ran over 2 miles of the 3.1 miles. It was hard and it hurt and I was exhausted and out of breath, but I did it. It took me 50 minutes to run. I started my watch when I started the swim and stopped when I finished the run and it was 1:45! Last summer when I did the same distances last summer in a sprint it took me 2:17! I have to improve on my run! I am just so heavy still that running at its best is a 15min mile. My goal for the same race next summer is 1:30 and I hope to stand on the podium!
