A month later...

Friday, May 20, 2011

So it's been a little over a month since I last blogged about my health, weight, and the possibilities of going the Lap Band route. Here's where I am at:

- I've gone to an initial appointment with the bariatric surgeon. He is the one who spoke at the Lap Band seminar last month. His office has submitted the request to my insurance co to approve the surgery. From what I have heard, I should get a response on/around 6/1.

- In the meantime, I am starting through the required appointments with the various Dr's and medical professionals.

Assuming i get all of the medical clearances AND my insurance co approves the procedure, this could happen somewhere between August and November (a lot will depend on how long I need to see a nutritionist).

I think the most challenging part my mind is still trying to wrap itself around is the nutrition. Today, I LOVE to eat. As my mom has been inclined to say, I'm the kind of guy who does not walk away from food! I clearly am eating better than I used to -- more fruits and veggies, limiting sweets, especially at night, etc. But all too often, it is the quantity of the mostly good foods I eat is the problem. I just rarely if ever feel full, and one of the benefits the Lap Band is supposed to provide is just that -- the feeling of fullness!

I'll plan to blog again in June on this topic. Hopefully with more good news. Thanks for your comments and words of encouragement.
