I am living proof that every little bit adds up to achieving weight loss and overall health. Five years ago I decided to return to yoga, something I had practiced in my 20s but had been away from for 30 years. I found that I really enjoyed it. The next year I continued in the once weekly yoga class, but was feeling so good about the improved flexibility , balance and body awareness, that I wanted more. I joined a once weekly Pilates class. So now I was taking two classes per week. My core strength started to improve. I could feel that I was becoming stronger, but still I was slowly gaining weight. The weight gain was gradual; it took me four or five years to gain 20 - 25 pounds. I did not own a scale at that time, so I kidded myself that I hadn't really gained much weight. Then, during a weigh-in at a routine doctor's appointment, I was made aware of the truth of the situation. I was sitting around 155 pounds. I knew if I did not get serious about things immediately, the slow creep would continue upward, making eventual weight loss harder and harder. I found a weight loss book which really helped me get started. It is I Can Make You Thin by Paul Makenna. I still listen to the cd almost every night as I fall asleep. His system of suggestion helps me eat mindfully, and I am fully convinced that his program has been a big help. But it only took me so far. Then a friend introduced me to sparkpeople.com. I bought myself two scales: one for weighing my food, one for weighing myself. I started tracking my food. Spark recommended it, and it is by far the most effective tool I use. I joined several Spark teams. The daily emails are awesome! They keep my focus on healthy living, eating wisely, and being active. Spark is the day to day reason that I have got my weight back around 130. Spark, I hope you are going to be around for a long, long time. There are so many of us who need you!
