My Walk and the Cat Litter...

Monday, October 03, 2011

I'm spoiled... my hubby has helped me in so many ways because he knows that I hurt... So, he has taken over grocery shopping and I usually sit in the van... He has taken over cooking, for which I am very thankful! Hate cooking! He has taken over errands for this and that...

The downside is, besides not knowing where anything is at Walmart since they've rearranged however long ago, slowly losing strength and endurance.

My hubby left on a business trip last Thursday, and I've done a tiny list at Walmart (though they had just waxed, and I had to go to the very back of the store to get to the produce), I did the Grandma thing by myself (a 4 yr old and almost 3 yr old) for 2 days, including going to the park and parking the van a little further away to get extra steps in. emoticon

emoticonSo - today - I needed to get some envelopes into the mail today... and procrastinated - so I decided to walk to the post office... not far for most people, but it was a challenge for me... I figured that I'd do okay because I had conquered Walmart (more or less). So I take off (choosing the warmest part of the day - 4 pm - with the sun shining, more people out and about in our small village, because school was let out. Felt pretty good half way there, until I had pain in both legs - between the hips and groin... not sure what muscles they were, but they were complaining. I thought I wouldn't make it and didn't know what to do... I needed to sit NOW, but there wasn't anywhere to sit. I finally made it to the post office, late. (However, as I stood there trying to regroup, I heard the post mistress gather the mail from the inside drop slot - so I hope that they will be delivered tomorrow as needed.)

emoticonI began to walk back - and realized that it no longer hurt like before. So I'm thinking the pain came because it was downhill, gradual as it was... Anyway, now - instead of pain - I'm dealing with sweat! Hate sweating! emoticon

Made it inside - and sat on the steps in our entryway, trying to cool down. emoticon

I still needed to get the 42 lb of cat litter into the house from the van (hubby picked it up for me the day I took him to the airport). It was REALLY heavy... I couldn't lift it over the seat, I had to push it toward the back of the van and grab it there... I barely made it into the entry way, up each of the 3 steps... and left it!

for now... REALLY need to get it to the bathroom where I'm changing the cat boxes. emoticon emoticon emoticon

emoticonAt my last weigh-in about 3 weeks ago or so, I had lost a total of 29 lbs. Don't know if I've lost more since then... but either way - 42 lbs of cat litter was REALLY heavy - I've lost weight - about 3/4 of that! No wonder I had trouble walking! or climbing stairs!!!
emoticon

I also was getting kind of discouraged about measurements - by looking at the last measurement to now... but then I took it into perspective, and looked at where I began measuring, and there's definite progress! So...

keeping on the journey!!!

You have been spoiled. Sounds like you are really missing him despite rising to the occasion. There are things that I know will be painful before I do them. When I am going to go walking, and know it will be a long walk, I take anti-inflammatory before I leave. If I have my advil before I leave, then I lessen the chance of the kind of pain that can stop me. As I was walking today I was wondering how it will be in 20 lbs or in 30 lbs when my poor joints aren't as abused. I think I will find out.
