no magic pills

Saturday, October 15, 2011

ok... for those who are not aware that I don't like drinking water, let me tell you, I don't like drinking water...

I've been doing better if I'm home, but I still have to force it down a bit at a time.

But today, after eating my lunch, I thought that I had found the magic pill - for the cost of only 40 empty calories! Cinnamon candy!!!! It would burn my tongue enough that I downed all 8 cups in an hour! (Something unheard of for me!)

It was going well, I thought.... to save you the details, let's just say that my stomach didn't appreciate all that water on top of my lunch... either that, or I'm getting the flu...

Anyway, going on the presumption that it was the mass assumption of water... I'm left with a couple questions...

1. Do I have to track the lunch calories that didn't get digested and is no longer in my body?

2. Do I get to count the water that did go into my body, but that is no longer in my body?

I suppose one answer nullifies the other.... all I really know right now is that I don't want any more water today...! been there, done that... didn't like it!!!

So - just as there is no magic pill or food, etc that melts away the pounds... there is no magic pill (or candy) to make drinking the water easy.... back to work!

My daughter ended up in ER when she drank too much water in a single day. As Blue42Down pointed out, it can be toxic.

Do you like (or should I ask can you tolerate??) bullion cubes in hot water? According to some guidelines I've been reading, liquid is liquid whether straight water or flavor added. I've gotten so I do like water, as long as it is ICY COLD. I see others have suggested Crystal Light. I like the lemon flavored.

I like to add the little crystal light packets to my water - at only 5 calories they are definitely worth it...

I am sorry that I can't give you any real advice here because I love water. I sure hope you don't have the flu though. I think drinking all that water is the issue. Water is very, very, important to the body and helps flush the weight away. Trust me it is true!

How about this, try drinking water in say Green Tea...okay, I don't love tea at all..but I manage to gag it down three times a day now...lol.

Have you tried the flavor without calories water? I've tasted some I like, but many I didn't..so you might have to try and few before you find one you like.

Drinking a glass an hour would help and it only has to be 8 ounces, so it is much smaller than you think.

I am crossing my fingers for you my dear!

    Hugs,

    Kristin

Wow - eight glasses all at once - that is a lot for your system to handle. I hope you are feeling better now.
Have you ever tried putting Crystal Lite in your water? That might make water more appealing for you.

Roxy.... 8 glasses at once??? I don't like water either but... 8 glasses at once?
When I'm counting water (and I rarely do) I count teas or drinks that do not have sugar, carbonation or caffeine. Even when I'm working on water, my goal is 6 glasses, not 8 glasses. I drink enough other liquids that I am not dehydrated. I'm like you, I just don't like water. I was raised on milk (milkman's daughter) and Koolaid (born in Nebraska where Koolaid was "discovered")!!!
By the way.... aren't you in WI? Perhaps that was another SparkFriend. I'll be in WI for Christmas, visiting my brother in Watertown.

I agree with everyone else - 8 glasses of water at one time is way too much. I also don't care for water that much but I will add lemon or lime slices or juice to water or buy the flavored waters that are zero calories. They come in both carbonated and uncarbonated. I have also tried herbal tea and like it too.

    Ohh My Roxy,
I really don't think it is the flu my friend!! .
and certainly not a good thing to try drink the water all at once!

    Do you like Herbal teas?
as in lemon or raspberry flavour? I think that might be the way to go to get your water in...
Just as long as it is not caffeine, any herbal tea would be great!.
    Remember no milk !.

Oh dear - 8 glasses at once? I would hazard a guess that it is NOT the flu!

I don't like drinking water either and it is a struggle every day to get in those 8 glasses. I have found that adding lemon juice to some of my water allotment helps. I try to think of all the good things the water is doing for me and I can usually get all 8 down (not all at once though!)

Hope you feel better tomorrow and as for tracking the water and calories - I don't have a clue LOL

I really wouldn't know what to say you ~should~ do, BUT the one thing I do know is that our body can begin absorbing things from food we eat in our mouth, let alone as it gets down to our stomach and further. So even if it came back up, it probably wasn't everything that came back up - and there's no easy way to know how much of what did. So it might be easiest to just list it all but add a note at the bottom about what happened - and adjust with a snack if you're feeling under-nourished later in the day.

Haven't had that particular situation, but I have had meals I don't finish. Like a vanilla shake listed today - I probably only drank 2/3rds, but I listed the whole thing. I'll make sure I'm closer to the high calorie range than the low, but I'd rather overcount my calories and undercount my exercise than the other way around.

On the water - while I understand why you'd drink that much, it's actually not safe to do it all at once. Water can be toxic if we drink too much too fast. (Science stuff - osmosis - our cells try to balance the amount of water on both sides. Too much on the outside and they swell up and get "intoxicated".)

Counting it? I'd say that's up to you. My usual pattern is to do what I feel is most honest to me and add a Note so looking back I can see if something was unusual that day.

I haven't done well with water lately either, but I'm feeling it. I have felt for years that I am a bit chronically dehydrated. When I was drinking water reliably for a couple months, I noticed the difference in my skin and my sinuses and just a few differences. Now that I'm slacking again, my sinuses are congested, my ears are plugged and I definitely am eating more. Wonder if I've learned my lesson yet.
    .
I would say you can subtract the calories you puked up if you can find an accurate way of counting them, and I would rather just flush and forget that.

8 glasses is too much at once. Hope you are feeling better and hope you don't give up water. It is so necessary.

I am sorry that it all came up, and 8 cups all at once is probably too much at once. As I was reading this, I thought of Jesus promising that he is the Water Of Life. When he was talking to the women at the well. Hope you are feeling better soon.
