Observing...

Observing... In my line of work, observation is critical. By default, I have begun doing this here, too.

I've been a member here on SP since the end of May, this year.

Like I'm sure others do... I am curious about others on this site. Besides reading about friends that I interact with almost daily, there are others whose paths have crossed with mine less frequently... and then the others whose blog title or feed draw me to connect.

I've found that there are a variety of people here... but, not including those with only a small amount of weight they desire to lose, they settle into 2 main groups:

(NOTE: in either situation, there are exceptions)

The first group has the common characteristics:
*they seek to lose a sizable amount of weight - over 100 lbs - up to 300 lbs
*they are active on SP interacting with other SPers - on teams, on others feeds, blogs, and spark pages
*they blog in the midst of their journey - the good, the bad, and sometimes the ugly
*they have a plan - it may not be more than tracking and exercising, but it is a plan - and they work the plan
*they have already lost at least 10-20 lbs, but most have lost much more, and some have succeeded to their goal weight


The second group has the common characteristics:
*they seek to lose a sizable amount of weight - over 100 lbs - up to 300 lbs
*they joined SP at least a year or more ago
*their blogs are sporadic at best
*their status is empty
*they have only lost 1-40 lbs
*some have lost and gained those 1-40 lbs at least once


My observations are these:
~there is a possibility of failure on this journey
~there is a possibility of success on this journey
~those with success have (for the most part) been on SP daily
~the successful SPers have stayed involved with other SPers on teams, feeds, and Sparkpages
~blogging and statuses seem to help keep the journey fresh
~those with a plan that is reasonable are successful
~those who are successful are those who are exercising and tracking their food

What I learn from this:

If I want to succeed, I have choices to make.

I already had a couple weeks where internet connection was sketchy and I found it easy to not worry about tracking - I gained a few pounds back that had to be re-lost. I don't want to go there again.

I need to keep blogging and updating statuses.

I need to log in daily.

I need to remember that the option to fail is always there. I don't want to go back there - ever again!

I need the support of YOU, my SP friends, as well as my hubby and daughter, if I want to succeed.

    Good observations - it is so important to keep connect to people who are supportive and encouraging - spark friends like you! My progress is slow, but it is happening. Like you I don't want to go back to what was. I am looking forward to my goals and what is ahead.

    Some very astute observations. The more involved you are here on SP, the more successful you will be on your journey (this is my third time around, and I have learned some things along the way LOL)

    Nice observation! I am new to Spark.. end of August. I feel the need to connect with those people who have the same hurdles to overcome. I don't blog often, but I do like to feel that I have support in this journey. You know how they have the new Sparkfriend recommendation? I went to take a look and many people they are recommending for me haven't changed their status in over a year....they would make great friends, huh! LOL

    I haven't done a very good job lately, but I do believe that the daily log ons, the articles, blogs etc., keep me from total backsliding and I believe make it much easier to pick it up and run with it again. I think it is funny that I have more "friends" on spark then I do on facebook, and I look forward to spark more.

    Isn't it amazing how well you have done already Roxy?
    it is just because we all know what you are going through and have been there and done that .
    You are going well love . just need to remember to track every little thing you put in your mouth .Water is so important too .. and Exercise of any discription is great .
    I know you can do this .. and once you have created a pattern you will feel so good and want to keep going!!
    Remember! this is not a diet that one can just do now and again.
    This is a complete Lifestlye change . it s the only way to achieve your goals and stay healthy ..
