Return to Strength Training -- Not Perfect, But Good Enough

Finally got myself back over to the strength training section of the gym today. I've done a good job at keeping up with cardio since Dad's illness (I can run pretty much anywhere), but strength training had fallen by the wayside.

I learned that I lost quite a bit of strength over the last few months, which is disappointing, but not surprising. Steve and I worked out together at the gym at my office, which I learned will suit my needs for the time being. Will quit the too-expensive gym accross the street and save the $$ for plane tickets to go see Dad and/or help Mom out. Steve and I would like to go back to personal training, but the money is just not in the budget for now.

But we are trying not to let the perfect be the enemy of the possible. I have free access to some decent free weights and machines -- enough to keep building some strength if not with the impressive results I got with my trainer.

I think part of the key to making this a "lifestyle" is learning to accept what works into my life, rather than getting frustrated because I can't have perfection. Perfectionism led me to regain 100 pounds once. (Believe me, I sense the irony of that....) I will not let it get in my way again.

    I've just started strength training again, after a LOOOOOONNNNG time away. It's difficult to resume, but I'm determined. Good luck!
