Day one of no pain

The definition of no pain has changed from my prior definition of " the discomfort in my hip isn't bad enough to keep me from running" to "my hip does not hurt" - without qualifiers. My doctor has been very patient while trying to teach me this not so subtle distinction. She has dealt with "runners" before and says that we are all crazy in the head.
I'm not sure who came up with the slogan "No pain No Gain" idea. I think they may have been sadists and wanted to see how many of us would push thru pain and onto permanent injury. That is certainly what I was doing for nearly a month as I tried to recover from a hip injury. I would give myself a few days of rest and then as soon as it wasn't excruciating to walk, I would try to run again. I mean - I had a race coming up and I paid money for it. LOL -
Runners can be crazy!!
But now after about 3 weeks of treatment from two doctors, my hip does not hurt at all. Now I have to wait 2 weeks with no pain at all before I can try running. I suspect I will have to start very slowly. Maybe 30 seconds on - 30 seconds off for a mile. And then go from there. I'm going to to whatever the good docs tell me -because they are much smarter than I have been. I am really looking forward to a nice joggle outside.
I don't even care about missing my race.
