Signed Up for the Jingle All the Way 8K

So I signed up for an 8K (~5 mile) race on December 11.
Probably a little nuts, since I've only JUST gotten back to where I can run 5 miles all at once. Also probably nuts because I have SO MUCH going on, both at work (where several cases are very active through the end of the year), at home, and of course with Dad, who is STILL in the hospital.
But, I needed a reason to force myself to get my miles in over the next few weeks. Otherwise it is too easy to make excuses about how busy and tired I am. Won't be breaking any land speed records, but do want to finish in a reasonable amount of time. Steve is likely to finish in well under 40 minutes. I'll be lucky to break 50, but will try.
Wish me luck!
Maybe the next challenge will be the Cherry Blossom 10-miler in April. It'll be the 10th anniversary of the LAST time I ran that race. (Of course, after that, it was all downhill -- and by late 2004, I'd gained all my weight back. Hopefully, I will do a better job of holding it together this time....) Not sure if longer distance running is what makes sense, though, given my limited available running time. It may be better to target 5-10K races and try to make better time. I kind of like longer runs, as opposed to speed work, but may have to be more realistic about my time constraints. I know senior associates and partners who do marathons, but they are the type of people who either don't sleep, or don't have a lot of additional responsibilities outside of work. I have no such luck.
