Sunbeam gourmet dog treat maker recipes

These recipes are a "batter" like pancakes or waffles - I bake them in the Sunbeam electric doggie treat maker..... they are on Sunbeam's website! The website has a lot more recipes than the booklet that comes with the biscuit maker.....So far all the recipes I've made actually made more bones than the recipe called for it to make....

Chicken Broth Biscuit – Makes 16 Bones
2 cups whole wheat flour
4 tsp baking powder
2 eggs
¼ cup olive oil
¼ cup unsweetened applesauce
1 ¾ cup chicken broth ( I also used beef broth instead of chicken)
Instructions:
1. Preheat the Dog Treat Maker for 10 minutes.
2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder.
3. In a medium bowl, whisk the eggs, olive oil and applesauce together. ( I don't use the olive oil I use vegetable oil)
4. Stir in the chicken broth.
5. Pour the chicken broth mixture into the dry ingredients.
6. Stir until combined.
7. Pour into the outer bones first, then the two inner bones for even baking.
8. Using a small rubber spatula, push the batter into the ends of the bone shape.
9. Bake for 15 minutes.
10. Remove the bones and let cool completely on a wire rack.
Peanut Butter Bones – Makes 16 Bones
1 ¼ cup whole wheat flour
2 ½ tsp baking powder
2 eggs
1/3 cup creamy peanut butter ( I use chunky)
1 ¼ cup water
Instructions:
1. Preheat the Dog Treat Maker for 10 minutes.
2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder.
3. In a medium bowl, vigorously whisk together the eggs and peanut butter until thoroughly combined.
4. Stir in the water.
5. Pour the peanut butter mixture into the dry ingredients.
6. Stir until combined.
7. Pour into the outer bones first, then the two inner bones for even baking.
8. Using a small rubber spatula, push the batter into the ends of the bone shape.
9. Bake for 13 minutes.
10. Remove the bones and let cool completely on a wire rack.
Bacon Biscuits – Makes 16 Bones
1 ½ cups all purpose flour
1 tbsp baking powder
2 eggs
1 cup low fat milk
1/8 cup canola oil
4 pieces of bacon
1 tbsp bacon drippings
Instructions:
1. Preheat the Dog Treat Maker for 10 minutes.
2. Cook the bacon until crispy or all of the fat has rendered off. Reserve 1 tbsp of drippings.
3. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder.
4. In a medium bowl, whisk the eggs, milk and oil together.
5. Crumble the bacon and stir into the egg mixture.
6. Pour the bacon mixture into the dry ingredients.
7. Stir until combined.
8. Pour into the outer bones first, then the two inner bones for even baking.
9. Using a small rubber spatula, push the batter into the ends of the bone shape.
10. Bake for 15 minutes.
11. Remove the bones and let cool completely on a wire rack
Wheat & Gluten Free Biscuits - Makes 16 Bones
1 ¼ cups brown rice flour
½ cup tapioca flour
2 tsp baking powder
¼ cup unsweetened applesauce
1/8 cup canola oil
¾ cup almond milk
¼ cup chicken broth
Instructions:
1. Preheat the Dog Treat Maker for 10 minutes.
2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flours and the baking powder.
3. In a medium bowl, stir together the applesauce, oil, milk and broth.
4. Pour the applesauce mixture into the dry ingredients.
5. Stir until combined.
6. Pour into the outer bones first, then the two inner bones for even baking.
7. Using a small rubber spatula, push the batter into the ends of the bone shape.
8. Bake for 15 minutes.
9. Remove the bones and let cool completely on a wire rack.
Greek Yogurt Icing
½ cup Greek yogurt ( I used yoplait vanilla yogurt)
½ cup cornstarch
1 tsp milk
Instructions:
1. Stir together all ingredients until smooth.
2. Color the icing. (optional)
3. Spoon into a zip-lock sandwich bag.
4. Push all the icing into one corner of the bag.
5. Cut off the very corner of the bag.
6. Decorate your homemade dog treats.
7. Place decorated treats, and any unused icing, in the refrigerator to thicken.
Banana Icing
½ medium banana
1 tsp water
1/8 cup cornstarch
Instructions:
1. Thoroughly mash the banana and water.
2. Stir in the cornstarch until smooth.
3. Color the icing with concentrated gel food coloring.
4. Spoon into a zip-lock sandwich bag.
5. Push all the icing into one corner of the bag.
6. Cut off the very corner of the bag.
7. Decorate your homemade dog treats.
8. Place decorated treats, and any unused icing, in the refrigerator to thicken.
Oatmeal Bones – Makes 20 Bones
1 ½ cups whole wheat flour
1 cup rolled oats
1 ½ tbsp baking powder
1 tsp cinnamon
½ tsp ground ginger 2 eggs
1 cup chicken broth
½ cup milk
¼ cup canola oil
Instructions:
1. Preheat the Dog Treat Maker for 10 minutes.
2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, oats, baking powder, cinnamon and ginger.
3. In a medium bowl, vigorously whisk together the eggs, chicken broth, milk and canola oil until thoroughly combined.
4. Pour the broth mixture into the dry ingredients.
5. Stir until combined.
6. Spoon the batter into the outer bones first, then the two inner bones for even baking.
7. Using a small rubber spatula, push the batter into the ends of the bone shape.
8. Bake for 13 minutes.
9. Remove the bones and let cool completely on a wire rack.
Tuna Bones – Makes 20 Bones
½ cup whole wheat flour
1 ¾ cup coarse cornmeal
1 ½ tbsp baking powder
1 tbsp dried parsley
1 tsp dried dill 1 egg
1 ½ cups water
5 oz can of tuna in water
1/8 cup canola oil
Instructions:
11. Preheat the Dog Treat Maker for 10 minutes.
12. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cornmeal, baking powder, parsley and dill.
13. In a blender, liquify the egg, water, tuna with water and canola oil.
14. Pour the tuna mixture into the dry ingredients.
15. Stir until combined.
16. Spoon the batter into the outer bones first, then the two inner bones for even baking.
17. Using a small rubber spatula, push the batter into the ends of the bone shape.
18. Bake for 13 minutes.
19. Remove the bones and let cool completely on a wire rack
Carob Chip Bones – Makes 16 Bones
1 cup all purpose flour
¾ cup whole wheat flour
1 tbsp baking powder
1 egg
½ cup water
¼ cup chicken broth
2 tsp canola oil ½ cup carob chips Instructions:
11. Preheat the Dog Treat Maker for 10 minutes.
12. In a large bowl, whisk together the all purpose and whole wheat flour, and baking powder.
13. In a medium bowl, vigorously whisk together the egg, water, broth and canola oil.
14. Pour the broth mixture into the dry ingredients.
15. Stir until combined.
16. Stir in the carob chips.
17. Spoon the batter into the outer bones first, then the two inner bones for even baking.
18. Using a small rubber spatula, push the batter into the ends of the bone shape.
19. Bake for 13 minutes.
20. Remove the bones and let cool completely on a wire rack.
Double Carob Bones – Makes 24 Bones
2 cups whole wheat flour
¼ cup carob powder
1 tbsp baking powder
1 egg
½ cup milk
¾ cup water
4 tsp chicken broth
1/8 cup unsweetened applesauce
3 tbsp canola oil ½ cup carob chips Instructions:
12. Preheat the Dog Treat Maker for 10 minutes.
13. In a large bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, carob powder and baking powder.
14. In a medium bowl, vigorously whisk together the egg, milk, water, broth, applesauce and canola oil.
15. Pour the broth mixture into the dry ingredients.
16. Stir until combined.
17. Stir in the carob chips.
18. Spoon the batter into the outer bones first, then the two inner bones for even baking.
19. Using a small rubber spatula, push the batter into the ends of the bone shape.
20. Bake for 13 minutes.
21. Remove the bones and let cool completely on a wire rack.
Cashew Dog Treat Frosting – Makes 2 Cups
1 ½ cups raw cashews, soaked
½ cup chicken broth
1 tbsp honey
3 tbsp olive oil Instructions:
10. Soak the raw cashews in enough water to cover, for a minimum of 4 hours.
11. Drain the water from the cashews.
12. Place all of the ingredients in a blender and liquify.
13. Refrigerate your frosting for at least an hour to help it thicken.
14. Store in a refrigerator for up to a week.
15. Color the frosting, if desired, and decorate.
Italian Cheese Bones – Makes 24 Bones
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 tbsp baking powder
1 tsp each dried oregano and/or basil
2 cups Italian blend cheese, grated
2 eggs
¾ cup milk
1 cup water
¼ cup canola oil
Instructions:
8. Preheat the Dog Treat Maker for 10 minutes.
9. In a large bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, baking powder, oregano and/or basil.
10. Stir in the cheese blend.
11. In a medium bowl, vigorously whisk together the eggs, milk, water and canola oil.
12. Pour the milk mixture into the dry ingredients.
13. Stir until combined.
14. Spoon the batter into the outer bones first, then the two inner bones for even baking.
15. Using a small rubber spatula, push the batter into the ends of the bone shape.
16. Bake for 15 minutes.
17. Remove the bones and let cool completely on a wire
Cheddar Cheese Bones – Makes 20 Bones
2 tbsp flax meal
6 tbsp water
2 cups whole wheat flour
2 tbsp baking powder
¾ cup water
½ cup milk
1/8 cup canola oil
½ cup cheddar cheese, grated Instructions:
9. Preheat the Dog Treat Maker for 10 minutes.
10. In a small bowl, whisk together the flax meal and 6 tbsp of water. Let sit for 5 minutes.
11. In a large bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour and baking powder.
12. Stir in the cheddar cheese.
13. In a medium bowl, whisk together the water, milk, canola oil and flax mixture.
14. Pour the milk mixture into the dry ingredients.
15. Stir until combined.
16. Spoon the batter into the outer bones first, then the two inner bones for even baking.
17. Using a small rubber spatula, push the batter into the ends of the bone shape.
18. Bake for 13 minutes.
19. Remove the bones and let cool completely on a wire rack
Blueberry Bones – Makes 20 Bones
1 ½ cups whole wheat flour
½ cup flax meal
1 tbsp baking powder
1 cup milk
2/3 cup chicken broth
1/8 cup water
1 tbsp canola oil
½ cup blueberries Instructions:
1. Preheat the Dog Treat Maker for 10 minutes.
2. In a large bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, flax meal and baking powder.
3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the milk, chicken broth, water and canola oil.
4. Pour the milk mixture into the dry ingredients.
5. Stir until combined.
6. Stir in the blueberries.
7. Spoon the batter into the outer bones first, then the two inner bones for even baking.
8. Using a small rubber spatula, push the batter into the ends of the bone shape.
9. Bake for 15 minutes.
10. Remove the bones and let cool completely on wire rack
Banana Bones – Makes 20 Bones
¼ cup dried banana chips, broken into small pieces
2 eggs
½ cup milk
1 cup water
1 tbsp canola oil
½ cup mashed banana (about one large banana)
1 cup whole wheat flour
½ cup wheat bran
1 tbsp baking powder
Instructions:
1. Preheat the Dog Treat Maker for 10 minutes.
2. In a medium bowl, vigorously whisk together the banana chips, eggs, milk, water, canola oil and mashed banana.
3. In a large bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, wheat bran and baking powder.
4. Pour the banana mixture into the dry ingredients.
5. Stir until combined.
6. Spoon the batter into the outer bones first, then the two inner bones for even baking.
7. Using a small rubber spatula, push the batter into the ends of the bone shape.
8. Bake for 15 minutes.
9. Remove the bones and let cool completely on a wire rack.
Carrot Bones – Makes 24 Bones
1 cup frozen carrot slices
1 cup water
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 tbsp baking powder
2 tsp cinnamon
½ cup grated carrots, minced
2 eggs
1 cup, plus 1 tbsp milk
¼ cup unsweetened applesauce
Instructions:
1. Preheat the Dog Treat Maker for 10 minutes.
2. In a medium microwave safe bowl, combine the frozen carrots and 1 cup of water. Cook for 1 minute or until the carrots are soft. Set aside to cool.
3. In a large bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, baking powder and cinnamon.
4. Stir in the grated and minced carrots.
5. In a blender, combine the eggs, milk, applesauce and cooked carrots with water.
6. Blend until liquified.
7. Pour the carrot mixture into the dry ingredients.
8. Stir until combined.
9. Spoon the batter into the outer bones first, then the two inner bones for even baking.
10. Using a small rubber spatula, push the batter into the ends of the bone shape.
11. Bake for 13 minutes.
12. Remove the bones and let cool completely on a wire rack
Sausage Bones – Makes 24 Bones
6 oz mild breakfast sausage, cooked, crumbled & cooled
½ cup peas
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 tbsp baking powder
2 eggs
1 ¼ cups water
¼ cup unsweetened applesauce Instructions:
1. Preheat the Dog Treat Maker for 10 minutes.
2. Thoroughly cook the sausage and crumble into small pieces.
3. Drain the sausage on a paper towel lined plate.
4. Once the sausage is cooled, pulse it in the food processor with the peas.
5. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder.
6. In a medium bowl, vigorously whisk together the eggs, water and applesauce.
7. Stir the sausage and peas into the applesauce mixture.
8. Pour the sausage mixture into the dry ingredients.
9. Stir until combined.
10. Spoon the batter into the outer bones first, then the two inner bones for even baking.
11. Using a small rubber spatula, push the batter into the ends of the bone shape.
12. Bake for 13 minutes.
13. Remove the bones and let cool completely on a wire rack
Pumpkin Bones – Makes 24 Bones
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 tbsp baking powder
1 tbsp cinnamon
½ tsp ground ginger
½ cup flax meal
2 eggs
1 ¼ cup chicken broth
¼ cup unsweetened applesauce
1 cup pure pumpkin Instructions:
1. Preheat the Dog Treat Maker for 10 minutes.
2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, ginger and flax.
3. In a medium bowl, vigorously whisk together the eggs, chicken broth and applesauce.
4. Stir in the pumpkin.
5. Pour the pumpkin mixture into the dry ingredients.
6. Stir until combined.
7. Spoon the batter into the outer bones first, then the two inner bones for even baking.
8. Using a small rubber spatula, push the batter into the ends of the bone shape.
9. Bake for 15 minutes.

Peas & Parsley Bones – Makes 24 Bones
2 cups whole wheat flour
½ cup flax meal
1 ½ tbsp baking powder
1/8 cup dried parsley
1 cup frozen peas, thawed
2 eggs
1 cup chicken broth
1 cup water
1 tbsp unsweetened applesauce
1 tbsp canola oil Instructions:
1. Preheat the Dog Treat Maker for 10 minutes.
2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, flax meal, baking powder and parsley.
3. Stir in the peas.
4. In a medium bowl, vigorously whisk together the eggs, broth, water, applesauce and canola oil.
5. Pour the broth mixture into the dry ingredients.
6. Stir until combined.
7. Spoon the batter into the outer bones first, then the two inner bones for even baking.

1 cup sweet potato, cooked & mashed Instructions:
1. Preheat the Dog Treat Maker for 10 minutes.
2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder and cinnamon.
3. In a medium bowl, vigorously whisk together the eggs, broth, applesauce and canola oil.
4. Stir in the sweet potato.
5. Pour the sweet potato mixture into the dry ingredients.
6. Stir until combined.

Better Breath Bones – Makes 24 Bones
2 cups whole wheat flour
¼ cup dried parsley
1 tbsp dried mint
1 ½ tbsp baking powder

½ cup water

Instructions:

4. Stir in the applesauce and apple slices.
5. Pour the apple mixture into the dry ingredients.

Spinach Bones – Makes 20 Bones
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 tbsp baking powder
¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
2 eggs
½ cup chicken broth
1 cup water
1/8 cup unsweetened applesauce
1 cup chopped frozen spinach, thawed & squeezed dry
Instructions:
1. Preheat the Dog Treat Maker for 10 minutes.
2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder and Parmesan cheese.
3. In a blender, liquify the eggs, broth, water, applesauce and spinach.
4. Pour the spinach mixture into the dry ingredients.
5. Stir until combined.
6. Spoon the batter into the outer bones first, then the two inner bones for even baking.
7. Using a small rubber spatula, push the batter into the ends of the bone shape.
8. Bake for 13 minutes.
9. Remove the bones and let cool completely on a wire rack
Peanut Butter & Oat Bones – Makes 20 Bones
½ cup peanut butter
1 ½ cups hot water
1 ½ cups whole wheat flour
1 cup rolled oats
1 ½ tbsp baking powder
Instructions:
1. Preheat the Dog Treat Maker for 10 minutes.
2. In a large bowl, whisk together the peanut butter and hot water until thoroughly combined.
3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, oats and baking powder.
4. Slowly stir in the flour mixture into the wet ingredients.
5. Stir until combined.
6. Spoon the batter into the outer bones first, then the two inner bones for even baking.
7. Using a small rubber spatula, push the batter into the ends of the bone shape.
8. Bake for 13 minutes.
9. Remove the bones and let cool completely on a wire rack.
Sugar Free Decorations for Dog Treats Ideas:
sesame seeds
quinoa
unsweetened shredded coconut
sunflower seeds, minced
pine nuts, minced

Common Substitutions
Whole wheat flour all purpose flour, brown rice flour
Milk water, soy milk, almond milk
Chicken broth beef broth, water
Peanut butter almond butter, soy butter
Pumpkin sweet potato
Canola oil olive oil, sunflower oil, or unsweetened applesauce
Eggs medium mashed banana or 1 tbsp ground flax to 3 tbsp water
Tuna canned chicken or salmon
Spices can be omitted without any adverse effect to the finished dog treat.
Pureed dog safe vegetables can be interchanged as long as the final amount is the same as the original recipe.
Storage Guidelines
All of these dog treat recipes do not contain preservatives. Because of this, you will need to store your finished dog treats in a sealed container in the refrigerator. You should be able to keep the treats fresh in the fridge for up to a week. Store the extra dog treats in the freezer for up to 6 months.
