Paleo Days 10-14

Tuesday, April 16, 2013

Whoops, got a little behind. :)

Last week continued well and I think I found my groove in terms of not being hungry. Yeah! My solutions so far include either a large salad or soup for lunch, and a smoothie as an afternoon snack. So far so good.

Thursday night I had happy hour with a friend but I got a virgin mojito (for reasons including and beyond Paleo) and a baked chicken/vegetable dish. NOT the norm for me when enjoying a nice dinner out with a friend but it was pretty good. Needless to say I was still hungry because I'd accidentally skipped lunch. Oops.

We went to a second spot and had some plaintain chips (free) so that helped.

Weekend was good. Friday...what did we do Friday? I really can't remember. Oh well. It was paleo!

Saturday I got up early to meet a friend for a race an hour and a half away. We left home at 5:30am since we weren't sure how long it would take to get there. Arrived with plenty of time for the 8:30 start time (had to get there by 7:30 for packet pickup).

It was a 10K in hilly terrain, mid morning with lots of sun. I managed to plough through the miles despite not having run hills in a couple years (I do love hills though) and maintained about a 10 min pace which resulted in a 1:01:41 finish time. Not a PR but I'll take it.

The race was sponsored by Blue Bell ice cream, a local company, and the proceeds went to the Brenham highschool athletic department. Oh, and free ice cream at the finish. I used this as another planned "cheat" because I deserved it dammit! :)

I got home mid afternoon and made a large salad. We went out to eat because neither of us was in the mood to cook dinner. It ws a Cuban place and I found a decently suitable meal (a shredded beef dish and fried plantains. Yum.)

We made an uncharacteristic stop for dessert on the way home - ice cream! The stuff I'd had at the race was not that great and I felt cheated on my cheat, so we split a small ice cream from Marble Slab. It was TOTALLY worth it. Oh, my other splurge was a tiny piece of bread at dinner. It's the little things!

Sunday I made paleo pancakes for both of us with sausage and eggs. Bryan made homemade pork ribs, grilled corn on the cob, and baked potatoes for "lupper."

All in all a success.

Monday was great.

Today marked either the last day of week 2 or the first day of week 3...either way, it was weigh in day. I was down at least a pound from last week so I consider that a success. I'm not obsessing over the exact numbers so I don't know precisely what the change is, but I do know it is at least a pound. So, yay!

Goals for this week are to find some more variety for meals - getting a little tired of the same things lately. Also, try not to eat two smoothies in one day - unless one is fruit based and one is veggie based. Me thinks my tum tum is not pleased with the other arrangement. ;)
