My husband told me to be ready to go out someplace nice tonight because he had good news to tell me. Jokingly I said, "YOU'RE PREGNANT!". He said, "YES I AM!, but really, be ready when I get home".
We went to Harry & Izzy's, which is a restaurant owned by the same owners as St. Elmo's Steakhouse downtown. The menu is comparable with a little less selection. The food, however, is great. It is a splurge we don't make often (and as I child I wouldn't have dared dream that one meal could cost so much).
My husband moved up a position at work. He is now a part of the executive team (which is unheard of for a 29 year old). The boss he now report directly to, the COO, has told him, "You're smarter than I was at your age" and "I'm going to nominate you for the top 40 under 40". C-R-A-Z-Y.
His new paycheck that comes along with the new title is more than I've ever heard of anyone our age making around the Midwest (Think along the lines of a $40K increase - Yowzers!). His salary eclipses' most duel income families (and he has now surpassed the income his parents make together). However, nobody better EVER say I married him for his money. When I met him, back in 2009, he made 1/4 of what he makes now. Not to mention, I know my husband, our lifestyle will see very little visible changes.
He stated at dinner, his priorities with the extra money are as follows: a 403B? Plan for our child's education (won't stop either of us from forcing them to get a job to help though!), and invest it to make sure we have 6 months worth of income in case of worst case scenarios. I slyly told him, "Um, so we have money for the bathroom vanity I want now, right?"
He wants a basic-run-of-the-mill vanity, and I want a "pretty" one. We've been redoing our master bath ourselves (he's handy & I watch!)... it saves us money, so we've been spending more money on better materials. Plus it is a Super Tiny Master Bath... If I can't have a huge luxurious bathroom... I want a small luxurious bathroom. lol I've wanted a white/grey bathroom. Here is the vanity I've wanted:
He's been telling me we can't get it because it is too much money. I've been complaining about it with no good arguments. I might be able to get it now! *Fingers Crossed* I'll still probably have to fight him for it.
I also talked to him about wanting to get carpet in the four bedrooms upstairs (something I've wanted to do since we moved in), but I want to make sure we get it a few months before the baby. #1 Allow it to air out (chemical smells & all that) and #2 I wanted a soft/warm place for the baby to play/lay, as we have ALL hardwood floors and tile in this house. He didn't seem to have an issue with the idea except to say, "I don't care for the look of carpets, I like hardwoods better". I said, "You don't clean the hardwoods. I do double the work. I vacuum them and then I mop them. At least with carpet you can vacuum and done!".
Wish me luck on my bargaining skills. I'm working with an Executive now (OoOooooo Scary!)
