Anyone have an opinion on this????...

The title of this blog says it all! I have been seriously thinking of starting up a personal blog/webpage/Facebook page for my journey next year. I turn 40 and I don't know if I'm beginning a mid-life crisis or what but have been thinking non-stop about how my life has been and what I WANT my life to be. A big part of that is my weight loss/get healthier journey. I have read that others have started these to keep themselves accountable and THAT is one main reason why I keep coming back to it. So I am asking for insights on this! If anyone has tried this or does it currently I'd love to hear about it - all the triumphs, tribulations, setbacks, everything! I have talked with a close friend who is also on this same exact journey AND who is also turning 40 to be a co-contributor. I see it being some work to pull off BUT also see it as being a fun experience, a chance to maybe help someone else in the same spot I am, and some much needed girl time! emoticon

IF you have time for it, it may be good. I find that it gets to be way to much and takes time away from doing what you intend to do. Action is what gets results not another busy thing to do with planning. I had found that no amount of accountability gives me results. The desire, will, and drive has to come from within. I would much rather focus my energy on reading books and take points from the book to help me develop laser focus on this journey than get more "cheer leading". In my opinion, but if it will help you, then go for it!

Just my opinion....I have seen some blog/webpages that are similar to what you are talking about. I think they are very well done and appear to be an interesting and valuable effort by the blogger. Sometimes they also have a facebook page.
I don't usually like the facebook page. There are only so many things a person can keep up with and I think one is enough. The individual has more control over what goes on the blog, but the facebook page just seems to get filled with junk.
I would think it just gets to be too much work to consistently put out a meaningful
effort in too many places. And then you end up focusing on the media, not the message of the journey.

I wish you the best if you do. The only thing I post on Facebook is healthy recipies or the health benefits of certain foods. I don't relate it back to my journey for the most part. When my Facebook friends see me in real life and note that I'm loosing weight I will tell them more about my journey if they want to know. It would be way to much pressure & an embarrassing fall if I struggle and don't meet my goals. I'm sure my friends would be supportive but I'm not going there. Spark people is my forum for support and to share what I have learned on this very personal journey. When I find the strength for continued Sucess I may reconsider but I doubt it.

I just read an article that said that the bad part about posting weight-loss stuff on Facebook is that the more public you are with it, the harder it is to resist feeling exposed and ashamed if things don't always go right. I think it depends on the person, though.

Thank you for the idea. I just started a private group on my own FB and added friends to it. I'm hoping others will ask to join as well. I love my Sparkpeople friends but my FB friends know me more personally. I've shared my journey so far on my FB and everyone has been supportive. However, there are things I want to share that I don't want other people knowing. Yes, I could edit each status before posting but don't wanna go through the headache. Good luck with whatever decision you make.
