Whoo hoo I'm on vacation!

So happy. Will be happier in a couple days when I decompress from work. Two weeks on my own schedule, minding my own affairs, sleeping a lot!!! I'm going to go vegetarian for a few days, see how I feel, how the workouts go etc. I'm going to go to the fitness center & work out A LOT. The pool is closed this month due to a mechanical problem, & the gym is empty! Sam says when the pool closes almost no one comes to use the rest of the facility. Well, I'll be there!
Also going to walk, or hike. (What's the difference? If the terrain is paved it's a walk, & if it's uneven it's a hike? I don't know.)
My daughter gave me a book for Mother's day. The Creaky Knees Guide; the 80 best easy hikes in Oregon. Isn't that great? I hope she can join me for one at least, but I'm going to do a couple of these.
I have to do a little shopping. I need a small pack for tromping around in the woods - a few safety things, some better shoes, and maybe some walking poles to save my poor knees on the down-slopes. These jaunts have become a real source of joy for me & I'm so thankful to be able to enjoy them.
One safety issue I don't want to comply with is "never hike alone". It's a problem. If I could find someone who is slow and silent, like me - who doesn't want to chat & isn't trying to set any speed records, that might work. But solitude is one of the chief pleasures of being outdoors, to me. I have a phone (if there's a signal) and a whistle and maybe I should get some mace or pepper spray (cougars? bad people? bears?) Still working on that part.
Also during this two weeks there are lots of tasks and chores to take care of. Doctor visits for mom. Car to be serviced. Haircut. all the stuff that's hard to find time for during the week. And my garden is still not planted - I've had this swollen hand for a few days & can't hold ANYTHING! But it's mending now so maybe Sunday (if it's not pouring rain again) I can work in the garden. I am feeling very sensible of my good fortune right now!
I hope all is well with all my friends and fellow Sparkers!
