April 2015 has been a good month!

After struggling to find a way of eating that works for me. After dreading daily "if" I could eat the way I wanted to eat, without giving in to Ben & Jerry! I am finally doing it!

I don't even like B&J anymore!! Yesterday I made a chocolate chia pudding that I think tastes 100x better!

I'm down another 4 pounds of the weight I had re-gained. Last post I mentioned that while Intermittent Fasting the weight was coming off slowly. Then suddenly 2 days later after I wrote that- whoosh! 3 lbs gone, and 2 days after that 1 more pound gone! What a surprise! I waited to put it on my tracker in just in case it was just a fluctuation.

The 5:2 Fast Dr. and other people who write about IF say that your body should switch to fat burning mode from IF. I think mine tried hard not to. But hopefully it gets the idea now! LOL!

I'm into my 7th week. I still do not crave or want the carbs that used to call my name. In fact I've become so picky about food, that I now prefer my own cooking to take out. Take out was always convenient. A bucket of broiled KFC could last me a couple days and I didn't need to cook it. Now I prefer my chicken made in the nuwave, it has such a lovely crispy skin and tastes so much better. So I buy lots of legs and thighs and freeze them raw, 2 pieces per bag. I can cook them in the nuwave from frozen. I'm used to cooking again. I remember when Grumpy and I first married in 1976, I was 19 and we had no money for processed food. I cooked a lot. Everything from scratch. As time went on skipping to 2006 we had more money, I was cooking 80% of processed foods for my kids. Thinking about that makes me sick now. My poor kids from those years. The kids born in the 90s had the most processed food of any. My kids now born in the 2000 have had the best diets these last 2 years.

Friday night I made our spaghetti using green beans for noodles and it was to die for! (It was tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, garlic, onion, little chunks of sausage, black olives, fresh parmesan, cheddar cheese and mushrooms) My carb addicted skinny husband said it was the best spaghetti I ever made! (in 39 years!) And he loved my spaghetti with noodles! I think the secret was cooking the green beans in chicken broth in my crockpot, then mixing it all together at 6 a.m. and letting it set in the frig till we put it in the oven at 3 p.m. (I'm too lazy to use a spiralizer! ;o)

I realized that another big reason I like IF is because I don't have to think so hard about what I'm going to eat. I used to try to think of 3 LC meals daily, and then when I went to eat what I planned, I didn't feel in the mood for that food. Then I tried eating the same foods daily for about a month. But I stopped losing weight so it got old.

After so much success with most of March and all of April. I'm excited for May!
Feels great! And I don't even think about it. The 5:2 Fast Dr said to keep busy and I thought "yeah- right!" But it really does work. And at my age time flies so fast it seems like in no time its time to eat! But then I have to be careful I don't let my 8 hour eating "window" fly by and miss my last snack! LOL!

I wish the Drs would realize that there is a DIFFERENT plan for everybody, and we just need to find it!! They are still trying to hand out the same old- same old calorie restriction diets to all of us!

Diet has been besmirched, as if it means more than "what we eat". Everyone has a diet. But the lifestyle of choosing our foods wiser for our own bodies makes sense. My wife is allergic to fish oil; even the pills. So that means we have to try to get the same health benefits fish provides without eating fish. It can be done.

I'm so proud of the effort and progress you are making. Out on the homestead when my grandpa was farming, he learned to keep his eyes on the end of the row. Unfortunately he drove that way too, and missed stop signs, etc. The point being, even Jesus talked about hooking up with his yoke so he could pull the weight while we walked alongside.

You don't have to be a Christian to catch the drift. We keep pushing towards the goal, and learn to have some restraint. SparkPeople is formed to allow the rest of us to encourage you as you go. You can do this, as you know. But there is not any tricks per se involved, and no sound-byte philosophy to soothe your aches. It is a process we are all experiencing. And here, we all get to learn from each other.

You pump me up. I'm so glad to have you as a friend here. I hope we can meet one fine day.

Never give up. Never give up. Never give up.
(If it worked for Churchill in WWII, it'll work today)

psst. that's my sign on pinterest for posted items. I have some "cheap eats" for healthy foods there, and hope folks will help "school me" as well as pass things along.

I'm really glad you're getting on well with the 5:2 diet / intermittent fasting. As you said, it won't suit everyone, but it really suits me and there are so many health benefits even if you're not doing it to lose weight.

    Keep up the good work!

I don't know if I will ever stop loving ice cream but your results are very encouraging. I do cook most of my meals from scratch though and do prefer them. I need to try more new recipes though. I love the 8 hour eating window. It works for me too.
