UP-DATE ON RECOVERY FROM SURGERY
Wednesday, May 13, 2015
I had rotator cuff surgery on October 31, 2014. I can't believe I am still having such a difficult time with my arm. I am going for physio every week, but I still have a lot of problems doing the exercises, especially the one where I have to reach my arm behind my back.
I have had home care helping me get dressed each morning and then get ready for bed each night. I stopped the home care last week, as I thought I would be able to handle things on my own. The lady in charge called me this morning and asked how I was doing on my own. I asked if I could have home care for another couple of weeks as I am still having a lot of trouble with the pain in my shoulder. It is especially difficult getting a bra on and having to do it up in the back. I have the same problem getting undressed. i thought that by now I would be back to where I was before the surgery, but unfortunately, I'm not. I am healing well, though, and my strength is returning.
I am seeing my doctor at the end of the month, and I will see what he has to say. He did tell me that it could take up to a year or more to heal. I guess because I am older, I don't heal as quickly as someone younger would.
Hopefully things will improve and I will be able to do things on my own again. I am planning on getting a cleaning lady to help me wash my floors, etc. I have a hard time wringing out the mop, etc. I know things will get better, but it is just aggravating to have to wait so long.
All I can do is take one day at a time and see how things go.
