British Tarantula Society Show - not a blog for Arachnophobes

Sunday, May 17, 2015

Today was the 30th BTS (British Tarantula Society) Show, and we had saved a little money so that my husband and daughter could join the other arachnophiles and enjoy their hobby.

We got to the Ricoh Arena about 11:30am

Only to join a long queue:

Yep we are in the right place:

Eventually we made it inside the exhibition hall:

and there was a sparkling array of spiders, scorpions, stick insects, beetles and even snails for us to view, and should the fancy take us purchase:
Even some land crabs

a display of spiderlings

Eventually we made it home with (I didn't photograph them all)
2 strawberry vampire land crabs

a Poecilotheria Regalis

2 salmon pinks

and 6 spiderlings (2 x Pink toes, 2 x orange bitey things (yes that really is their name), 2 x Trinidad Olive)

Thank you to those of you who read this far, I hope you weren't too freaked out

Nuff said - movin' on

emoticon emoticon I'm ok with spiders behind glass, but did they do head counts to make sure they took them all with them? emoticon Glad you had fun!

I didn't know I could be so creeped out and full of admiration at the same time. I think I would enjoy this unless any were on me .... I don't like bugs or spiders on me

It is great you guys are getting out to do things you enjoy - I am determined to add more of that to my life - this year has been just the start

I never thought to collect spiders. They seemed to collect themselves. Having experienced some blood poisoning from a one-two punch from bites/stings from spider and various mosquitoes, I prefer to keep spiders at a distance, if I can!

I had a student in one of my company English classes who is a collector. He did a presentation for the class and it was a hoot because none of his colleagues knew that this was his hobby. I learned recently (through Facebook) that he now lives just a couple of blocks from me. One of the first things I thought of was "I hope none of his pets escape!"

    LOL at "orange bitey things"!

Not really a spider-phobe, though I am not familiar with any of these varieties. It sounds like you had fun!

Orange bitey things? I have no idea of any of what you mentioned are! But, I'm not scared of any spiders that are in enclosed areas! Well, unless hiding in a shoe or something.... Not really scared except of the brown recluse spiders that live amongst us and have ferocious bites! Sounds like an interesting day!!
