Why Adele Won’t Let Body Image Issues Rule Her Life

Thursday, January 07, 2016

Adele, queen of the world, has some serious body image wisdom to offer.

The “Hello” singer (and breaker of a million hearts) spoke to SiriusXM’s Town Hall on Monday about her upcoming album, and took a moment to discuss how she feels about her body.

“I do have body image problems, for sure, but I don’t let them rule my life,” she said. “There’s bigger issues going on in the world than how I feel about myself.”

Adele has previously spoken out about being comfortable in her body and not worrying what others think of her. In 2011, she told British Vogue “I enjoy being me”–a viewpoint she echoed in this week’s radio interview.

“There’s only one of you, so why would you want to look like everyone else?” she said. “Why would you want to have the same hairstyle as everyone else, and have the same opinions as everybody else?”

I think this is great advice for all of us. What a great role model Adele is, especially for young women.

I love it! Unfortunately media focuses on the beautiful people, the ultra thin, the people who are back to their regular size two days after having a baby. They enforce the belief that this is normal.

I love it when people like Adele, Kelly Clarkson and others show us that it's ok to be who we are. Size isn't the most important thing in the world!

    Love and respect!
