THE VISIT by Darlene

You walk in her room and say, "hi Mom, it's me." But all she sees is her little boy coming in from play.

You give her a bouquet of lovely flowers, but all she sees is the first bunch of dandelions her dear little boy pick for her one summer day.

You say, "I'm tired Mom", as you wipe a tear from your eye. But all she sees are the precious eyes of the baby you once were.

You give her a kiss and say "I've got to go now Mom", but all she knows is she loves the kiss you always give here before you leave her.

She will try to remember your visit but she never will forget the day her little boy came into her world. He will never go away.

You will never forget this visit because now at last you're sure, you are the little boy Mom has with her and this is fine with you.

Your heart breaks each time you leave her, but now you know she'll be ok, because she has that little boy with her, whose able to stay while you're away.

    Absolutely lovely!
You know, it reminds me a little of the time when I was in Gestalt Therapy. GT merges childhood memories with the present state of being. It helps integrate the past with the present when the past has been fragmented from abuse or trauma, etc. A fragmented personality or a past that was damaged to the point of disassociation leaves people glued to their past, for example PTSD. There's a lot of role playing in this therapy. Of course GT is used for other problems, this, but this was my experience. When I get caught up in my past I talk to the child in me, remind her of the present and comfort her. Slowly, but surely she integrates with my present. It's very healing to live in the present when the past was so painful at times. Your prose touches my heart. Thank you!

I appreciate each and everyone of you for taking the time to say what you have.

I have a little folder with things in it that I wrote quite some time ago. I hope you'll read the next one. If it's not good, please tell me. It's ok, really! I'd rather know the truth than to be told a lie. I've heard the truth is always easier.

    Thanks again!!!
