Blueberries

Saturday, October 01, 2016

When I was younger, before blueberries became a super-food, I saw blueberries in large containers for low prices and I wouldn't even try them....think maybe because they were blue. Now that I have discovered I like blueberries, the packaging is shrinking and prices have skyrocketed! Next time Marty McFly goes "Back to the Future" he needs to bring back truckload of blueberries!

Oh, I know what you mean...
I love all berries.. and eat them quite often. Perhaps, that's why I am so tall I thought. hahahaha

Have you tried the blueberries frozen and eating them out of the freezer while frozen, they're like
little mini popsicles. Or once frozen with just a little milk poured over them? Just a thought. emoticon

I KNOW - the price and size is outrageous right now. So grateful that we were able to pick and freeze a lot this year. They are great in my oatmeal!! and even as an evening snack by themselves. So glad you found how good they are,

I have a fruit smoothie every day and here is what I put i it .

    1/4 C Blueberries
    1/4 C Raspberries
    1/4 C Strawberries
    1/4 C Pineapple
    1/4 C Grapes
    1/4 C Clementine

    1/2 Medium Banana

    1/2 C Greek Yogurt

1 Scoop Whey powder (Strawberry flavor)

I am well withing my fruit servings for the day (And that is the only 'sugar' {Glucose not sucrose}I have other than what is in veggies and milk)

    I have a Nutri-Bullet Pro 900

I add water to just below the 'Max' line on the cup and spin that puppy for about 45 seconds

. . and Viola . . drop in a straw and enjoy . . BUT . . I make it last all day . . I have it with each meal as well as a with a snack!

There is a Blueberry farm that I go to each year and I pick them by the pound $1.85

I bring them home and wash them off (Organic of course) and I towel dry them and put them on a cookie sheet and flash freeze them and add them to a gallon sized freezer bag and place the freezer bag within a plastic shopping bag(Reduces freezer burn)!

I shop Aldi's for other frozen (organic) fruits. Yes..they are expensive, but I found my health improving greatly just by eating the small amounts but eating them daily! I stay within my calorie range and I meet the RDA for fruit!

It's a 'Consumer Health Trade-off' Pay one price now High costs for healthy food VS low cost for unhealthy food.. or pay another price later .. High insurance prices and high health care prices for avoidable illnesses!

"Why does it cost so much to eat well and so cheap to eat unhealthy foods?" A new law here in New York was passed that there will be no cigarette smoking in a car with children less than 18 .. YET more people die from Obesity and Obesity related illnesses that cigarette smokers! I see no 'laws' stopping the sale of unhealthy foods! All you need s a plot of land..a building permit and $2,000,000 to buy into a franchise!

Me .. $1.89 a pound and I get to be in the sun! ( I yield my Soap Box!)

Haha yeah blueberries are super pricey! Also raspberries and blackberries too. But they are worth a splurge now and then for sure :)
