Day 7: Un-winter Weather

Monday, January 23, 2017

The weather here in Ohio has been really strange this winter. We had negative temperatures and heavy snow in November, then January has been downright balmy with a high of 66 today. In the early afternoon, my husband and I ran a leg of a dog transport for the German Shepherd Rescue I volunteer with (Echo Dogs White GSD Rescue), which means we were part of a long series of drivers moving a dog from her foster home in Florida to her new forever home in Michigan. The weather was so beautiful as we made the northern hand-off that we decided to go home and take our own white German Shepherd out for a bit. We headed off to one of the nearby MetroParks and picked a 1.2 mile trail, as we only had about 2 hours until sunset. Neither of us were really expecting the amount of terrain change! It was like hiking a Smoky Mountain trail.. In flat Ohio! My FitBit says I climbed the equivalent of 21 flights of stairs. My 9 year old, slightly arthritic dog had a hard time in a couple of the muddy slopes, but overall she obviously had a great time. And so did I, even though there were definitely some complaints along the way about the amount of uphill we were climbing. After two weels straight of cloudy grey days, we finally had sunshine today and got an absolutely spectacular sunset. We got home just in time for me to grab my camera and go across the road to get some beautiful shots of it, which I will have to post later cause I am a major procrastinator when it comes to editing. I also took some long exposure night shots around town after dinner. Speaking of dinner.. I kind of forgot to have lunch. So dinner was a bit of a splurge. Went over my daily target of 1500 calories but under 2000 so not terrible. Plus all that walking today means I don't feel guilty at all. Tomorrow is my first weigh-in day!
