I'm Giving Up! (Sort of)

Yesterday, I decided to give up! No, not on the healthy lifestyle, but the idea that I have to keep stumbling along to the end goal.

There are little goals along the way that build on the final goal becoming permanent and not just a dream that evaporates immediately after (or during) the celebrating of reaching the ultimate goal. I know that. I've known it all along, but for some reason, I got caught up with that ultimate and final goal and didn't bother looking at all the little goals, like stepping stones, that I learned and continue to learn about now. I know there is going to be more learning and self-discoveries in the future.

Yesterday, as I looked at my inner-self, I thought, "You still haven't learned to leave foods that you know are unhealthy (for me) out of the lifestyle. Sure, pizza could be healthy in a couple of aspects (for me), like the meat and cheese, but I would be smarter to pull that stuff off the bread platform it sits on - well, I can't do that yet, maybe someday, I could pull all the "good" stuff off and lay it on a Romaine lettuce leaf and eat it, but I've always thought I'd rather have my salad in a bowl, not on my pizza.

Might be easier to just not eat pizza. There are several things I need to reconsider on this line, so I decided to develop something that I can go back to and look at. How about a personal journal? Yea - I've tried that before and never got very far. I can be so inconsistent in some things.

But today, I am more determined than before. I've put together some ideas I'm working on to be more aware of the small stepping stone and utilizing them to reach that ultimate goal of mine in the future. It might take me awhile, but the more I work at it, the better I'll become and I'll reach that goal in the end.

    I gain every time I have pizza (even the thin crust) or pancakes. Have to stay away from them.

    Stepping stones are the key, as well as is everything in moderation. We have made the switch from regular pizza to thin crusted pizza,and I love it! A lot less bread to chew, swallow, and worry about, and the best part is - the toppings are in the starring role, and you can really taste them!

    We have an Italian restaurant just around the corner that does brick oven pizza, and that is were we get our pizza now. Do some research. I'm sure you can find something similar in your area.
    Forget cauliflower pizza crust! YUK! emoticon Go for the thin dough! I also eat lighter and more protein heavy for the other meals on the days we decide to order pizza.

    Also, I have experimented with a flatbread crust at home, and order them out as well sometimes. You can find them in the grocery store. Lavosh bread works well, too. This weekend we are going to experiment with Grilled Pizza on our grill. I'm still mulling it around in my head. Going to try a 5 minute No Knead Dough and roll it thin.

    I love pizza too. It is so darned delicious and irresistible. I like this new approach. It sounds very doable. It could work well!

    Sometimes that final goal seems to be too far away to ever reach. Going for smaller goals would help me too.

    I get what you mean. We work so hard and then sooner or later, a reward - like pizza comes. I always think I can do it. This last episode ( I've evolved to calling it that) we bought a take and bake. In thinking about it, I always tend to eat more slices than what is healthy. I should really only eat one piece with a salad. So ta-da! We cut the uncooked pizza in 1/3's. Froze two of them and baked the third third. DH had two pieces and only one left for me! As for pizza that was a win for me. LOL - until a few years back this gal could eat the whole pie! We can do this thing! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

    You'll make it! I keep a journal, consistent or not. It helps, and I only do it sometimes. Small changes and saying goodbye to "perfection" which doesn't exist. There is beauty in imperfection.

    We will both meet our goals, and enjoy life along the way.

    I agree it's easier not to have the pizza except on very very rare occasions I'd rather have it less often but on vacation and my birthday....well I might have some!
    Love your insight into learning about your inner-self....that's more important to lasting health.

    I definitely understand the intent focus on the end has you missing the milestones along the way. It's easy to get caught up in the end game and not realize how far we've come or how many changes we've made along the way. That's awesome that you're taking a step back and making the effort to notice the waypoints.

    Regarding the pizza, and as someone from an area known for good pizza this pains me to say, making that cauliflower crust pizza isn't actually that bad as long as you accept that it's not going to taste like pizza. It's going to be a decent tasting vehicle for the things that go on pizza. The people who say it tastes just like pizza either have no taste buds or have never had good pizza. ;) Anyway, with that caveat, if you're looking to still have a "pizza-like" experience without the crust, I'd give the caulliflower pizza crust recipe a try.
