Wednesday night hike, the forest edition
Thursday, May 04, 2017
I usually hike with a group on Wednesday nights through the Spring. We usually go for someplace high with a good view. The object is to get in condition for summer hiking and to get a good view. There was no hike pruned for this week and I went on my own. I was in the need for some forest time. Peace and quiet amongst trees and dorset plants. A SparkFriend and I have also bantered about the concept of Shinrin-yoku, or forest therapy.
I love this alder grove. It's wonderful in Spring with it's fresh green leaves just budding out.
This is one of the biggest trees I've seen in the lower county. I don't know if my knapsack (the bright green thing) gives the feeling of scale. This is a very large tree.
It's at least 160-feet (50 meters) tall, and conservatively 300 to 400 years old.
I had my dinner under this tree. It's not as big, but still powerfully impressive.
