I thought that once our daughter finished her education, all the coordination nightmares that occurred because of trying to get daughter to her choir and/or orchestra rehearsals/performances with at least one parent in attendance when one parent had her own rehearsal and performances to deal with would be over. Ha! This week, I am trying to figure out how to have dinner together on the nights when DH wants to exercise between the time he gets home from work and I need to leave for a lesson or rehearsal before he finishes exercising. He does not want to change his days and I am not pushing too hard, because he does go out of his way to let me have the final "say" on a lot of what we do, and I feel that it is my turn to accept his preference. We have some experience with that kind of routine on Thursdays and our answer was to have pizza that night. I bake it early, eat what I want, and the rest is there for him to have after he exercises. Now, my cello teacher, who is also student teaching, giving private lessons, participating as a performer in at least one orchestra, etc. wants to schedule our lesson on Tuesdays. DH and I are going to try having dinner when I get back from lesson at about 7:30. I'll plan something that I can organize before I leave. He can pop something in the oven and steam some vegetables, or I can buy sushi that afternoon and it will be waiting for us.
One time in the recent past, I bought some individual chicken pot pies to bring home and bake. When I asked him yesterday if he had any suggestions, that was one of them. Last week, I was still in my eating everything but the kitchen sink mode, so I'll have to check the calorie count, but maybe we can get it done. I'm doing better on limiting my eating to reasonable food at reasonable times, but there is still a lot of room for improvement - at least I am pausing to think about the pot pies instead of saying darn the torpedoes, full speed ahead.
