Another Small Delay

About a month after my last blog I twisted my knee at work. I felt a sharp pain in the moment but kinda hobbled around and walked it off. The pain came and went for awhile and I was icing and taking NSAIDs to reduce inflammation. I got it to a point that it was tolerable and overall improved. About a month after that I had been helping move my son and climbing some stairs and the pain got quite a bit worse.
That was on a Sunday so I increased the treatment frequency and continued on through my work week. Come Wednesday at the end of the day it became so painful that I picked up a pair of crutches before my next work day. My thinking was that I’d give it a break for a few days and see if I could get it under control to avoid seeking medical treatment. When the following Sunday rolled around and it had not shown signs of improvement, I went to urgent care for an assessment. The attending Dr. said I was doing everything right but ordered an MRI since nothing showed up on a standard X-Ray or manual knee tests.
After an MRI and follow-up I was told that I had a “micro-fracture” to my femur. According to the Dr., if I was 20 it would have already been healed. I’m slightly older than that (and out of shape) and since there is nothing to cast or be done in that area, I was given PT to facilitate recovery.
Just this last visit, my PT gave me the OK to (carefully) climb the stairs to my gym. I have been aching to get started back into a solid fitness routine so I am super excited to get started on a more progressive path.
We purchased an adaptive motion trainer that we will pick up today and hopefully have it assembled and ready for use by the end of the day. I will let you know how we like it after I’ve had enough time and ability to use it.
