Eat for vitamin/iron not weight loss

Thursday, June 14, 2018

This is my personal journey. For a very long time I tried to lose weight and exercise. My knees wouldn't let me so I assumed that was my issue. Too much sitting. After my knee replacement I didn't want to sit anymore but everytime I tried to do anything my body shut down. I was winded, dizzy and exhausted. Quite an accomplishment for doing nothing all day. My Dr's kept referring me to other specialties, endless tests that showed nothing and they decided I just needed to lose weight and I wasn't following my diet plan. Two weeks ago I saw a new Dr. He talked with me over an hour, looked at every note in his computer and told me I'm anemic. What? Why was I never told? After many labs I was found to have severe iron and B12 deficiency. He said they are so low he's not sure how I'm walking. Now, a week into my iron pills and 1000mg B12 injections I feel like a different person. Now I track vitamins and iron instead of calories. To me, weight-loss is just a word . Life is about health.

The food tracking is amazing. I started looking at the nutrition to see where I am lacking and I'm able to adjust. I absolutely LOVE that little "extra". If the iron pills don't help or I can't tolerate them than I will find myself with weekly iron infusions as well. I'm hoping to not go down that road because they are 4K and insurance doesn't like them. I think if I can get the diet down better I will be on a great path!
