Doing Me!
Wednesday, January 09, 2019
It's taken me awhile to fully understand that what works for some people may not work for me (and typically doesn't). While I'm way behind my original goal of hitting 160lbs by 12/2017, I've made a lot of positive changes since then. Previously, my cholesterol yo-yo'd up and down from normal to high yet it has been normal for the past year thanks to adopting a more vegetarian lifestyle. My weight has been under the 200lb mark for a year come next week and I have gone down to a size 12-14 (depending on the cut...some pants just aren't made for chicks with thighs) from a size 16-18. I have lost 25lbs (and maintained it), have more energy and am way more confident in my own skin.
Since I spent the last year really figuring out a nutritional lifestyle (getting enough protein without meat, etc.), my goal in 2019 is to work on the exercise part. Instead of pushing myself to do an hour workout a day and making myself utterly miserable, I'm starting with 30 minutes at least 5 days a week. So far, I'm on track and am finding that 30 minutes in the morning really does make me feel good. I'm down 2.7lbs since January 1 and am actually okay with that (I used to get so discouraged if I didn't lost 5lbs a week with my unrealistic expectations). Undeniably, I would love to actually hit my goal weight this year by my 40th birthday in August; however, I'm not willing to continue the pattern I've followed for years so I will not be pushing myself to exhaustion only to revert back to my old ways rather I'm going to do it my way! My progress may be slower than my friends' or those on the Community Feed but it's progress all the same and if this truly is to be a "lifestyle" than I have to be the tortoise...trying to be the hare just made me feel worse about myself each time I failed! I would say wish me luck, but we all know luck doesn't have anything to do with this so I will say....find what works for you and be okay with the progress you make!
