Today I Am Thinking About Good Health

Friday, September 06, 2019

Ten years ago, when I was 42, I had a health scare. I was pretty ill, and the potential diagnosis of colon cancer was a real possibility, along with Crone's Disease and other scary options. In the end, a colonoscopy revealed a large pocket of infection, which was successfully treated with high doses of steroids. My doctor also removed several polyps, which were thankfully benign. A specialist did another colonoscopy three months later, that showed no further problems. I've been healthy ever since and I am grateful every day for that.

Today I had my ten-year follow-up colonoscopy with the specialist and everything was fine! No polyps, no infection, no colonoscopy for another ten years! Rick and I are elated. I try never to take good health for granted, but it's so easy to do that, to let my daily aches and pains affect my mood when I should be rejoicing that nothing more serious is wrong.

It was about a year after this incident that I found SparkPeople and started along the path to a healthier lifesyle. Reflecting on this renews my determination to get back to a healthier way of eating and living once again.

When I was terribly ill ten years ago, my then 13-year-old daughter and her friend knew I couldn't keep anything down but jello and broth. I was sick on my birthday, so they went to a great deal of trouble to create a jello birthday "cake" for me. It really meant a lot! Here is a pic:

I am in love with your daughter.

What a loving thing for her to do. And how that reflects on the loving home in which she lived. This is a post so full of love. Thank goodness you were able to heal from that infection and hooray for you for taking care of yourself since then. How true that good health is your best gift.

Still smiling about that jello cake.
