Our last appt. was Sept. 3 at the Cleveland Clinic for DH's Oncology check up. It was 5 yrs. in Aug. he was diagnosed with Kidney Cancer, also in the liver, both lungs, vena cava, & lymph nodes.
If you haven't, you can read my other Blogs to catch up on what's happened to this point.
On this appt. DH had Lab work done, then a CT Scan. Then the visit with his Oncology DR. Dr. Rini. He told us DH's CA. is growing again. so he's taking him off this Chemo pill. He has been on this one 22 months. Plus with his hand & foot syndrome always getting so bad.
He was looking at the Computer to decide what option to go with now.
He came up with another drug. This one is not in a study, so we would have to pay what ever his insurance didn't cover. Dr. Rini tells us it's usually pretty reasonable. I thought to myself whats reasonable to him probably won't be reasonable to us. (on a fixed income)
He said they would check with our insurance & the Pharmacy & let us know.
When he was all done with all the info. he tells us he has bad news ! I thought it couldn't get much worse !
He tells us he's leaving the Cleveland Clinic & going to Vanderbuilt Hospital in Nashville, Tenn. Aughhhhhhhhhhh............ I almost started to cry right there & then !!!
We just love him, we trust him & feel comfortable with him ! He's been with us since this whole nightmare started !!!
Ya' know, I realize this kind of thing happens all the time. But........
I asked him what he'll be doing there? The same as he's doing at the Clinic.
Dr. Rini is one of the top DR.s in his field. Kidney Cancer Research.
He did tell us the Dr. DH will have now. Dr. Moeshe Ornstein. He worked with Dr. Rini.
Our last visit we saw him cause Dr. Rini was at a Seminar speaking.
We really liked him too. He's got more of a sense of humor then Rini. LOL
Were just glad it's somebody we know & like. & he sure wouldn't have been working with Dr. Rini if he didn't know what he was doing !!!
Dr. Rini told DH he'll wait at least 2 wks. before he'd start the new Chemo Drug. He wants John's foot to have a chance to really heal. DH has to call the new nurse on his case in 2 wks. which was today. ( already)
When Dr. Rini was about to leave, he comes to shake our hands, I said, nope, I want a hug. I gave him a hug & thanked him for every thing he's done for DH, us ! I started to cry this time. I told him I know for fact that DH would not be alive it it wasn't for him !!! & the whole Clinic !!!
We can't say enough good about them.
By the end of the week, a guy from the Clinic called for DH, said he wanted to talk to him about financial assistance with this new drug.
With his insurance it would still cost us $2373. 85/month ! DH told him that's our total income/month ! He asked a bunch of other ?'s. Then he said he'd call back in a few days.
We just didn't know what to do it this wouldn't come through for us.
We were both upset since the appt. at the Clinic then this. We kept praying & ............
This past Tues. the guy calls back. I was upstairs, DH was downstairs. We both picked up the phone at the same time. I let him do the talking. He found a grant for DH, it's enough to comer 2 1/2 ~3 months, & when that time is close to ending, he'll look for another grant. & keep doing that every 2
~ 3 months. OMG !!! Thank you Lord !!! ; } emoticon
Here this guy is a Pharmacist at a Clinic Pharmacy in Beechwood, maybe about 5 miles from the Clinic.
He was so nice ! He was very informative, told us the 4 main side affects & a bunch of other stuff. We thanked him for everything !!! ; }
Now today was the day DH had to call the nurse, she called back. She made the next couple of appt. for DH. He'll have Lab work both appt..
He's to start taking the new drug tomorrow AM. & as usual, call the Clinic any problem come up.
Well, here we go again. Please excuse any mispellings or other errors. It's already past my bedtime, but I wanted to write this while stuff was still semi fresh in my mind. LOL
Stay tuned for the continuing saga of my Dear, Dear sweet man ~ DH ! ; }
Love ya' Flutterfli emoticon

    You are both in my prayers. I am so glad the pharmacist was able to find a grant and will continue to look for more. It is hard when chemo is so expensive but so necessary.

    There is power in prayer. DH will be added to my prayer list. Maybe ask for prayers from the community on the feed. A grant for meds now...maybe another grant when this one ends. God is working in your life.

    Keep praying...keep the faith! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
