The Revised Common Lectionary (RCL) readings for this week (meaning for upcoming Sunday worship services in those churches who across the globe and denomination spectrum use it) are 1st reading_Jeremiah 8:18-9:1 and Psalm 79:1-9, 2nd reading_1Timothy 2:1-7, and the Gospel reading_Luke 16:1-13.
I'm wanting to let folks know it is hard to have positive attitudes about life, to excel in endeavors, to maintain one's health physically, emotionally, mentally when the Social system of a land (such as USofA) openly violates Scripture and God's people apparently approve.
Today I read that August jobs added is reported as around 130K. One thing about statistics I can say is that I've seen no indication people realize that every year about 10 million people enter the job market for the first time as High School graduates. We are not tallking about those who do not graduate, nor get released from military service to enter the civilian job market, etc.
Numbers indicate maybe 10% of the employment need is being addressed by "new jobs created" as touted by the "experts" and our own Government. Is that representing a good economy to you? Really?
This is true no matter who fills the offices in our varied government positions at all levels. The poor are despised, the needy employed for the price of a pair of shoes, profiteers control food production and sales, etc. Those who think America is the restoration of Israel as the nation of God need to reflect seriously about what the Bible says about Israel and their treatment of both God and the poor, widowed, orphans, etc.
The stress makes it hard to properly function, but the answer isn't to ignore it. We must live with tension in our lives no matter what land we live in. But pretending it is acceptable to God to abuse and mistreat the stranger in the land, despise the poor, and more is more criminal in my estimation.
I pray that those who of us who are poor and needy do not get embittered towards the cheerleading crowd obsessed with making life better by thinking happy thoughts while actively supporting the oppression of the weak and despised people. The German citizens had to face their culpability after WWII for not only standing by but allowing the Nazis to commit their war crimes in their midst. So, what say you?
Will you submit to the LORD of Life for living by faith in the real world, or continue living in a pretend reality where our actions do not impact others. The choice is always your own. Make it a good one, please.
