There was a certain stretch of road near my hometown that the locals called “Ambush Alley” because it was a speedtrap to catch and fine drivers that were speeding. Everyone knew there were hidden police cars with radar and so we slowed down and proceeded with caution. The goal was to make it through “Ambush Alley” without getting a speeding ticket.
With all the holidays rapidly approaching, I feel like I am living in my own “Ambush Alley” when I think about all the threatening temptations that are already starting to come my way. My goal is to make it through the holidays and continue my healthy lifestyle without getting “ambushed” by all the temptations.
The Halloween candy for the Trick-or-Treaters has already been bought and is lurking and hanging out in the kitchen. But because the candy was so tempting to me, I used one of our Living the Good Life habits and hid it away out of sight or “Out of Sight-Out of Mind”. I will bring it out of hiding just before the trick-or-treaters arrive.
So, thinking about the approaching holidays, now it’s time to pull out all my tools and remind myself to use them and stay on the healthy road of my life long journey as I navigate the holidays.
First and foremost I must practice mindfulness and stop living on auto-pilot, doing things without consciously thinking, and then reverting back to my old unhealthy way of living.
I need to pull out my detailed plan of everything I know I need to do to stay on my healthy road. I need to read it, review and make adjustments where needed, and then “Just Do It”!! Here’s the link to my plan. www.sparkpeople.
I need to revisit my blog on “Losing Focus” and fine tune my laser-like attention to focus and stay on track. Here’s that link. www.sparkpeople.
Most important of all for me will be staying connected with SparkPeople teams and challenges to both give and receive daily motivation, inspiration, and support and stay on track!
Now, here are some insightful and encouraging thoughts to ponder...as I navigate through my own “Ambush Alley” holiday season...
Wishing everyone good health, peace, and happiness as we celebrate the holidays and cherish special times and make memories with our loved ones...
