A tiny change which has made a huge difference

I suck at breaking bad habits. Honestly. I have an adictive personality so breaking bad habits can take years. I've quit smoking. I've quit biting my nails. I haven't had a soda in a very long time. But man, it has taken so much energy to extinguish these baddies that I hardly had energy for anything else.
On the other hand, because of that same addictive personality, I don't have that big of a problem picking up good habits. Drinking 64 oz of water, running every other day, measuring and logging all my food are all pretty easily picked up along the way. My hope is if I pick up enough good habits they will displace the bad ones.
My newest good habit is just before going to bed I fill a 32 oz water bottle with the first half of tomorrow's water. I then place it with love on my bedside for Future-Maud. Then, the next morning, before I do anything I reach over, pop open the lid and take a long pull on the morning's water. This means before I check my phone, pee or feed the cat I do something special for my body. My first act of the day is self-care. It is amazing how good that first water tastes going down after 8 hours of dehydrating over the night.
I'm not sure if it is psychological but that first little bit of watery self-care really, really starts the day off with a bang. I am so grateful to Past-Maud for caring for me so much that I always remember to do the same favor for Future-Maud every evening. Starting and ending each day with an act self-gratitude and self-care has really centered my sparky adventure.
