Getting more focused on my goals

Saturday, June 13, 2020

I'm a very inconsistent runner. Despite the fact that I've run numberous 5ks and about five half marathons in my life, I hardly ever stay consistent in my running. I start a program, quit, pick it back up, do a half-@ssed attempt at running a race, and then promptly quit again. Only to decide to start again about six months later.

I haven't been able to stay consistent with it.

Each time, I usually use the same program to pick it back up. It's this C25k program that was on coolrunning.com years and years ago. I kept a file on my computer of the visual representation of the program that I found on pinterest somehow.

I've lost count on how many times I've started this program. However the last time I started it was on February 24th of this year. Now one thing about this program that you will notice is that it's a nine week program. So I should have had more than enough time during quarantine to get through it. However, almost four months later I'm on week... four. Yes, that is right. I've taken about a month to get through each week of the program so far.

I've got plenty of excuses... mainly the stress and anxiety that I've been feeling during this time with everything going on. I've taken lots of breaks, too. I did a grand total of one run in all of March, and only two in April. Since May though I've been doing a bit better, and running more consistently. I've kept track of my progress in my bullet journal.

Since I was starting and stopping so often, I added another space for some additional runs during Week 2 - 5. I keep running that week until I feel ready to move on to the next. It looks a little strange, especially since the 5k that I was training for was supposed to be last month, but of course that race was cancelled due to covid.

So my plan is to finally finish this round of C25k sometime next month. If I run 2-3 times a week for the rest of June and July, I should be able to make it.

I went and bought a new fitness planner today from Micheal's. I filled up the first couple pages with my goals and the progress that I've made so far this month. I charged up my Fitbit because I want to track how many steps I'm actually taking versus what my phone is saying, and I want to know how many hours I'm sleeping each night.

I want to be more focused on getting back into shape than I have been. So for the next six days I want to:

emoticon Drink at least 64 oz of water a day
emoticon Log my food in my journal
emoticon Run two times
emoticon Daily yoga practice
emoticon Keep up with my fitness journal

I'll check back in on Friday and let you know how I'm doing, just to keep myself accountable.
